4.0 out of 5 stars Very comfortable, April 26, 2004

This review is from: Black 6 Pocket BDU Pants / Trousers (Apparel)
Comfortable and of pretty decent construction. The waist cinch straps are great -- adjusts the fit like a belt, but lots more convenient (and there are still belt loops if you want them.)

Anywhere there's a button closure (thigh and rear pockets, plus the fly. I mostly notice this with the fly), the two-ply button flap has a seam separating individual buttons, so when buttoning or unbuttoning you can't slide your fingers down from button to button but must actually pull them out, move down and back in.

I found the proportions to be pretty good in most respects, but it's a bit baggy in the crotch; the length of cut between the top of the inseam and the top of the waistband is longer than is typical for jeans in similar sizes.

The material (55% cotton, 45% polyester, twill-pattern weave) is pretty soft, but is not noiseless. There's a definite rasp when it slides over skin. Not as loud as some slacks I've worn of similar material proportions, but louder than a cotton pair of jeans.

I've observed only slight shrinkage when laundered with hot water and a hot dryer.

These pants are made in China, in case you care (military replica vendors often seem to make a point of this.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than some, less so than others, June 7, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
First of all, if you're at the top end of the size range, you'd better go up to the next size since BDUs seem to run a bit tight. In my opinion, Propper makes a better pant overall, but these aren't bad. The poly/cotton material seems rugged and I hope to have these for a few years. Good color retention after a few washes too. Captain Dave's is an excellent retailer with great customer service that is also easily reached.

5.0 out of 5 stars Adjustable waist rocks, with one caveat, May 25, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
These pants are awesome! My daughter is a CNA and needed black pants with lots of pockets. The problems for her are that, 1, we seldom can get anything locally in black, 2, she only reaches 5 feet if she's just been to the chiropractor, keeps her shoes on, and stands as straight as she can. However, she's not a little wisp of a thing, so there really is nothing that fits. Our best results have been with men's clothing or unisex clothing, like military styling. This adjustable waistband is wonderful and, with the length choices, I only had to shorten them about 2 inches, instead of our usual 6-8, which leaves the pockets in a good place. The caveat - around the hips is a little snug if you're at the big end of the adjustable waist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good overall from a military perspective, March 24, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I went on a 15 mile hike wearing these pants and I have no complaints. At first the material seemed a bit thin compared to military issued cammies, however I was kept warm. No chill factor from wind. Only time will tell how well the stitching is done. A lot of Marines split their pants at the crotch seam, though I have yet to do so. The pockets would be better if they were deeper, however I don't even use them since I utilize a tactical vest. For product and price overall a well deserved 5 star.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great pants, just wished they offered them in different lenghts, June 26, 2009

I bought these pants and they look great, the only thing you have to be careful is the zipper, it is a little flimsy (or at least in mine were) you have to be careful when pulling it up. I have about 4 pairs of these pants and the first time I tried one of them and was not careful about the zipper, it broke.
I wish they offered them in different lengths (short/regular/long). Even though you can tie them on the legs, in my case they're a bit long and even after tying them they bunch up at the bottom. This again is not a defect of course...just an observation if you wear 30-32 length pants these might be a bit long

4.0 out of 5 stars PANTS, June 16, 2011

I used two pairs of these while in the law enforcement academy. These pants will withstand just about anything you throw at them; however, they are a bit longer and wider than I expected compared to similar products. They have a button fly and button pockets, both of which I'm not a huge fan of. These pants, if you can get them in the right size, are very comfortable.

These pants are great. They are much more comfortable than blue jeans and the cargo pockets are very handy! I may never own blue jeans again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great BDU pants, September 10, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Despite their name "Military Black Ultra Force BDU Pants' the pants you pull out of the box are pretty laid back and subdued in appearance.

65-35 poly-cotton blend. Button fly, buttons on most pockets. Quite comfortable to wear all day.

Waist cinch tabs are a huge plus.

Great pant for the money and roomy everywhere you need it. Would buy again.
