Let the movement begin!!!!!!!,

This review is from: The Black-Print: Black America's Blueprint for Achieving Wealth, Prosperity and Respect (Paperback)
The black print sheds light on many different problems we have in the African American communities. Being a young black male, I was indeed enlightened by the section regarding slavery. There was a lot of stuff about slavery that I didn't know about, stuff that our school system would not teach us. (In order to know who you are, you got to know where you came from) Overall the book is amazing, a must read for any body that wants to be a part of a movement. It is time we plant seeds in our communities to watch them grow into strong oak trees. The author outlines a step-by-step plan to plant those seeds to make our communities strong. There are many different obstacle African American people have to deal with. You may see people in music videos, actors, etc, but really the root of our problems start in our communities and our mind set towards life. The issues are in front of us and we need to start solving these issue. After reading the black print, it made me stronger, more aware, and more ready to be part of a movement. One day I would love to raise my children in a community where the roots are strong. I would recommend this book to young African American people, because we are the ones that would lead the movement. Every question that someone may ask, the author already comes up with an answer. This makes me happy, because there are too many so call leaders who come up questions, but never the answer. Mr. Malik Green comes with the answers, and to tell you the truth the answers are not that hard to accomplish. Read this book you would not be disappointed.

This is one of the most provocative books I have read in a long time. The author makes a number of valid points and suggestions. My only question would be, how do we get the black community to read the book which could be an excellent empowerment tool. And I am a bit disappointed that the author doesn't encourage black parents to homeschool, which more and more families are doing because they are so fed up with the public schools, and simply aren't willing to hold out hope that the few years their children have left in school will improve.
Would like to have seen more about the lack of decent grocery stores in poor communities, and how none of the Hollywood elite who are blathering away about the importance of being green and organic, have put their money where their mouth is, and invested in Whole Food types stores in poor communities. In a recent NYTimes article they wrote of a wonderful small community in Utah where doctors wanted to live in a small community rather than make big bucks in the city, and how they were more concerned about community than the all mighty dollar. Yet, the author doesn't seem to know how to get his community to make wiser choices, like with the 60% out of wedlock, single mother families. And the domino effect this has for generations. Latinas may have similar drop out rates, but the number of out of wedlock births and single parent families are also lower. Would have liked to have read more about what the black community can learn from successful communities. Why based on statistics per population numbers, do Asian students do better in school? Why do some white students in non well to do communities do better in school than blacks? Could it be that their families see education as the path to success. The recent Space Shuttle flight had Stockton CA astronaut Jose Hernandez, whose family were migrant workers. He noted that education was so important that his parents chose to stay in one place, live in a small house and do whatever work they could find, in order that their children could have a good public education. His observation on the media are also good. Yes, I think the media is lazy and sensational oriented. Which is probably why ratings for the network news are at an all time low. As are newspaper reader rates. Was pleased to see him asking serious questions about why black owned media doesn't stop the demeaning of blacks be it in music, or television and even movies. And why don't we see more positive stories about blacks? Why is it I look around my community and see 99% positive from the blacks where I live, yet the local and national media doesn't seem interested. Again I think more black families need to homeschool, since this provides the positive environment that children need. This is a good book and one I recommend.

The book is very inspiring and uplifting. You're taken back to the ground roots of our culture to the present. I love the book because it's not something you just read once and never go back to. It's a book with a purpose and action plan. We all need/should be involved in our communities. If we don't do it for us at least be conscious and do it for our youth. We need to rise up and support our African American culture and be proud!! Great book which will leave you in awe!!!

I would like to share my overall impression of this book. The author certainly has an interesting narrative here - it is obvious that he is well read on his subject matter. I really enjoyed his approach and outlook. The author also does a nice job of expressing his ideas and tracing history. His narrative voice is very familiar and friendly. The book has an excellent flow to it and is nicely put together. It is filled with information I am sure many people will find interesting and thought-provoking. It is obvious that the author has done his homework and put much thought and preparation into this book. The author seems to have a certain fervor for the subject matter because he really does speak to his audience. I think this book will be well received by a wide audience. A very important and timely book, I highly recommend it!

This book is a wake-up call to Black America. It speaks to African Americans in a loving but stern and forceful manner. The author lays out the obstacles that impede the progress of many African Americans gives us a plan to remove these obstacle. According to the author, love and unity among African Americans is essential if we are to ever rise to our potential as a people. I agree with this wholeheartedly, African Americans seem to have lost the love for one another. This lack of love is destroying us as a people. I give author mad props for saying the things that need to be said. Too many of our so-called leaders refuse to speak out against the injustices perpetrated on the disenfranchised citizens of this country.
