Book Description

November 1, 2009
When New Mexico private eye Jack Vane is wrongfully charged with the murder of his much younger Native American wife, he escapes a vengeful ex-girlfriend police lieutenant but learns he is at the center of a sinister global conspiracy and hunted by dark forces in possession of a terrible secret--at risk in a dangerous race between onrushing doom and something malevolently irresistible.

Black Road 2012 is a science fiction techno thriller novel. It is structured around a lost relic, ancient knowledge, and rival shadow government conspiracies bent on world domination--all racing against a questionable yet ticking prophecy of doom. Hard-boiled detective Jack Vane's personal choices and evolution become all-important, as he travels a horrific path that drags him from the lowest point of waste and despair to the most thrilling height of success.

Set in New Mexico, BLACK ROAD 2012 features memorable Native Americans, as well as Indian mythology, religion, and philosophy. It also presents a roller-coaster ride of adventure, terror, a love story, and draws aside the dark curtain of history, revealing shadow governments, lost ancient science, a sinister mystic relic--and more.

A meticulously researched and uncommon thriller--BLACK ROAD 2012 entices the reader into a masterfully written story of intrigue, plot, counter-plot, adventure, and excitement.

The author is familiar with deep secrets and conspiracies. He was a top-degree member of the mysterious Masonic Brotherhood, and was also a top-level Philly private eye for over 30 years.

Review

...an intense novel, involving a protagonist with deep feelings and attitudes, who is hounded by mysterious and bloodcurdling forces. The monstrous global plot is set in a landscape that is continually rife with danger...there are paranormal thrillers and then there are authentic paranormal thrillers like Black Road 2012 that not only talk the talk but also walk the walk. --Book Pleasures, October 11, 2009

Masterful, Exceptional, and Thought Provoking...It is cliche to say things like `page turner' and `I could not put this book down', however it is in fact true. I did in fact read it cover to cover in a single sitting....The quality of the writing is truly exceptional, the character development is masterful, and the subject matter startlingly thought provoking. --~~Bloggernews.net, December 28, 2009

Blending a noir mystery with a biblical thriller, Jeffrey A. Friedberg draws upon his own experiences to bring readers quite the story with "Black Road 2012". --Midwest Book Review, December 8, 2009

I absolutely loved this book...I was astounded at how quickly and intensely I was drawn into this story. The author's blend of genres (also adding suspense and paranormal thriller) was honestly brilliant. --Micki Grover Critiques, December 2, 2009

Like a dangerous addictive substance, I was hooked immediately....holding my breath, covered in goose bumps... --Reader Views, October 15, 2009

Sometimes the desire for vengeance brings you upon more than you would ever expect. Blending noir mystery with an almost biblical thriller, Jeffrey A. Friedberg draws upon his own amazing experiences to bring readers quite the astonishing story with "Black Road 2012". --~~Midwest Book Review, December8, 2009

5.0 out of 5 stars I cannot wait for the next book!, December 17, 2009

I believe the previous reviewers have gone over the plot and characters pretty thoroughly, so I will just add my general review to this book. It is truly a page turner; the characters and the plot interweave to the point where you are drawn in quickly and completely, unable to put the book down because you want to know what's coming next. I had the same visceral reaction as when I was reading the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

I'm really hoping the next book is in the chute and ready for release soon, because I really want to see where this story (and Jack) goes!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading "Black Road 2012". If you enjoy mystery/paranormal thrillers you will love this book. It was truly a visual experience - I felt right there alongside Jack Vane. Especially the last 150 pages, it felt like a rollercoaster ride. It would be awesome to see this book made into a movie. When I envisioned Jack Vane I thought of Mickey Rourke (who deserved the Oscar for "The Wrestler"). Congrats Friedberg on a work well done!

5.0 out of 5 stars More Jack Vane please!, December 2, 2009
This review is from: Black Road 2012 (Paperback)
This book is just out and lucky are those who have already read it.

Jack Vane, an ex-private detective, ill, injured, worn out by time and hard work, wants out of the profession, when he is being accused of murdering his wife and unborn twin daughters.
As he becomes obsessed with finding the real murderers he is driven by greater powers and becomes a sort of semi-god.

The story is a continuous swirl of events, a real roller coaster. It is a paranormal thriller, a love story, a crime story, all wrapped with the myth of the 2012 prophecy. The historical and scientific facts are well researched and the scenes are so vividly described, you feel like you are there!

But don't read the last pages before it's time. The suspense lasts to the very last page.
