Book Description

Photographer Earl Douglas has been a part of the Black Rock scene since 1988. A longtime supporter and current Executive Director for The Black Rock Coalition, Douglas has a unique access to what many consider to be the last true Alternative Music scene. "Black Rock Volume 1" is a collection of photos that he's taken through the years along with some of his thoughts and observations about the gifted musicians. It's a must have for anyone who's a fan of rock n roll and for those curious about the Black experience in the medium.

1.0 out of 5 stars A photo book January 21, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
This is essentially a photo book.
With minimal blurb like writing contained within.
It really doesn't "work" well on a Kindle with its limited gray scale colors.

These are photos of music bands and musicians performing and every picture that I have seen in the hardcover are color prints.

End result, it just doesn't translate well into this format (Kindle, I am big long time Kindle fan, owning 2 models).

Knowing that, if you want to purchase I suggest you do, just be aware of what you are getting.

1.0 out of 5 stars Photo E-Book? January 21, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I have a hard copy of this book (which I bought out of pity for the author). I'm not sure why anyone would pay $10 to see a couple of photos in an E-Book format, especially on a device that is black and white.

I also think this book is racist, but I'm cool with that.

4.0 out of 5 stars Black Rock? I guess so. January 21, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm delighted that this book is finally available on Kindle. The hardcover version was ridiculously overpriced, and this one is much less overpriced. It is a color photo book without much words, so it's not really made for Kindle, and in fact I don't think it would work well on an actual Kindle. Fortunately, I view it on the Kindle app for Android, which is in full color and the the pixel aspect ratio is almost pretty good, only slightly stretched vertically. The only thing that would make this book better, other than costing less, would be to have captions for the photos, or some other description that allows the "reader" to know who the people in the pictures are, where they are, when the photos were taken, and what the context what makes the picture worth looking at. I rate it more than half of the possible number of stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific images of black rock icons January 21, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Where are you going to find a better collection of assorted black rock photos? Nowhere! Who else but the head of the Black Rock Coalition could get all these intimate portraits? Noone! Bravo Earl Douglas!
