Editorial Reviews

Limited two disc (CD + NTSC/Region 0 DVD) pressing of the 2008 album from one of Finland finest Rock exports of recent years, featuring a bonus DVD that contains a documentary on the making of the album. The band that gave us the international smash hit 'In The Shadows' in 2003, taken from the platinum-selling album Dead Letters, have now teamed up with legendary producer and songwriter Desmond Child (he that wrote the likes of 'Livin' On A Prayer' by Bon Jovi, 'Poison' by Alice Cooper and 'Livin' La Vida Loca' by Ricki Martin) on an album that boast a score of potential hit singles. Island.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic CD, January 12, 2009
By
I discovered Rasmus totally by accident a couple weeks ago and ended up with this album. I disagree with a previous reviewer who said that this is not the Rasmus album to start with. This is one great listen. One or two less exciting songs but then again few albums are perfect. This one comes darn close. Every listen seems to bring out another layer and I haven't had to skip a song once.

As an old timer (50 something) who's been rockin since the late 50's, I'm really happy that there seems to be bands out there that still rock and haven't gone over the edge as so many bands do these days. A lot of my favorite rock these days seems to be coming from Scandinavian or Eupopean bands. I'm looking forward to getting Rasmus' eariler releases.

4.0 out of 5 stars A New Direction for One of Europe's Greatest, September 14, 2010

This is an amazing album by one of Europe's greatest bands of this generation. This is a departure of sorts from their earlier work though and that is neither a good nor a bad thing. This album is a bit darker than there earlier ones. One thing I do love though is how they seem to show off Pauli's guitar skills a bit more. Many if not most of the songs on this CD have some great guitar solos and I personally am a fan of guitar solos so in my opinion that was a great thing. This album is great but I think if you are a new fan you would be better off first listening to some earlier stuff i.e. Dead Letters.

4.0 out of 5 stars I'm all about Desmond Child., September 28, 2009
This review is from: Black Roses-Special Edition (Audio CD)
I don't know much about The Rasmus. I just buy anything Desmond Child works on. He is a famous song writer and a producer. He helped Bon Jovi, Kiss, Joan Jett, Ricky Martin and other stars compose some of their greatest songs. On "Black Roses", he worked on every single one of them and it shows. His signature sound is everywhere. If you know Desmond Child and if you love his work, then this album is for you. In my opinion, "Your Forgiveness" is the one to put on a Desmond Child compilation CD.
