Fantastic CD,
By Dennis (Florida) - See all my reviews As an old timer (50 something) who's been rockin since the late 50's, I'm really happy that there seems to be bands out there that still rock and haven't gone over the edge as so many bands do these days. A lot of my favorite rock these days seems to be coming from Scandinavian or Eupopean bands. I'm looking forward to getting Rasmus' eariler releases.

A New Direction for One of Europe's Greatest,
By
This review is from: Black Roses-Special Edition (Audio CD)
This is an amazing album by one of Europe's greatest bands of this generation. This is a departure of sorts from their earlier work though and that is neither a good nor a bad thing. This album is a bit darker than there earlier ones. One thing I do love though is how they seem to show off Pauli's guitar skills a bit more. Many if not most of the songs on this CD have some great guitar solos and I personally am a fan of guitar solos so in my opinion that was a great thing. This album is great but I think if you are a new fan you would be better off first listening to some earlier stuff i.e. Dead Letters.

I'm all about Desmond Child.,
This review is from: Black Roses-Special Edition (Audio CD)
I don't know much about The Rasmus. I just buy anything Desmond Child works on. He is a famous song writer and a producer. He helped Bon Jovi, Kiss, Joan Jett, Ricky Martin and other stars compose some of their greatest songs. On "Black Roses", he worked on every single one of them and it shows. His signature sound is everywhere. If you know Desmond Child and if you love his work, then this album is for you. In my opinion, "Your Forgiveness" is the one to put on a Desmond Child compilation CD.

I was surprised to hear how much Rasmus has evolved, but I think it works in their favor. Lauri's vocals, the band's signature undertones, and excellent lyrics are still part of Rasmus' style, but this album's new edge lends it a bit of mystique. 'Black Roses' is a must-have, especially for those of us who appreciate Finnish rock bands.

A good record,
However, too much Bon Jovi-style influence and Journey-ish arena rock deja vu for my taste. This music is also very Euro-sounding, which might be a negative. The record is well-produced however, and likable despite the sometimes sickening gimmicky-ness.
