This is an excellent, moist bread with warm nutty flavor. It's reminiscent of the bread served at Outback Steakhouse restaurants, which is why we bought it. Yeast and optional caraway seeds are included in the packaging, which is very tight so the ingredients were fresh. We made it in our bread machine on the "white bread" setting and it worked flawlessly. The seller was excellent, too - fast shipping!

This is one of the best Black Russian Breads I've had. I would say it is similar in taste and texture to the loaf of bread you get at the Outback. It's so easy to make in your bread machine and comes out perfect without much effort. I'm lucky enough to live down the road from The Prepared Pantry, which is where they make this mix. It is definitely one that I regularly buy.

Bought this bread for inaugural use of our bread maker. The bread was orgasmic but it had better be for the price. I could have bought 5 loaves of bread for the cost of purchasing this.

I have been very happy with the Prepared Pantry mixes I have tried (so far, the English Muffin and the Black Russian). I made the Black Russian on the Basic setting and medium crust, and then cut it up for dipping in cheese fondue on New Year's Eve. This is a family tradition - every year we dip both a pumpernickel and a light bread (sourdough, potato or the like). I followed the directions exactly (I used a meat thermometer to check the water temperature) and I also checked the dough after the first five minutes and added a little water to get all of the mix moist and off of the sides of the maker. This bread was better than anything I have ever purchased. The only downside of the Prepared Pantry mixes is that, after shipping, they wind up costing more than just buying bread. For the English Muffin, I am still torn over whether I am better off just buying it occasionally, but the Black Russian was so good, I will definitely buy the mix again, despite the price.

A VERY GOOD bread. Instructions were clear and simple. I actually went out and bought a breadmaker so that I could do it right and that made it easier. My Ukrainian wife said that it is as good as anything that she can buy at home...I will be buying a lot more...

I did not expect a bread out of the mix to taste so great! I made it using the medium crust setting, and it was just right for crispiness. Even though there was a bit of a mishap on my part (misread the water temperature -- used 80C instead of 80F, ouch!), the bread loaf turned out great. Will be buying again, for sure!

A great bread mix - baked, sliced and frozen in my household. Tasty and economical for me.

The bread is easy to make and it is in general very good dark bread. However, in comparison with other (European) pumpernickel it is too sweet for my taste.

The ONLY reason I ordered this bread mix was because the description and the customer reviews both indicated that the caraway seeds were packaged separately and it was optional to add them. They are not only in with the rest of the mix, but they are ground up, so you can't even sift them out!! I HATE caraway seeds! No one in my house will eat this bread because of the caraway flavor, so I am out the bucks. If they changed the packaging, then the seller should change the item description!
