4.0 out of 5 stars Has some really great stuff for collectors.
As another reviewer said this doesnt contain complete live songs. But does have about 3/4's of Sabbath's rarely seen 2nd performance on Tops Of The Pops. In '78 Sabbath performned Never Say Die twice on the BBC music show. The First performance is on the story of vol.1 dvd/vhs but the 2nd is hard to find in trading. Just for this makes this a must have for Sabbath fans...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Good
I had high expectations for this DVD because I wanted to see the band perform live back in the early 70s. But it only played little clips here and there with lame interviews between them. I like documentaries on my favorite bands, but this one was so boring and repetitive.

In '78 Sabbath performned Never Say Die twice on the BBC music show. The First performance is on the story of vol.1 dvd/vhs but the 2nd is hard to find in trading. Just for this makes this a must have for Sabbath fans. Also is footage of the band from the Paris '70, Kirschner's Rock Concert '75, Never Say Die '78, New York '80, Cross Purposes '94 dvds. All of the bands official videos except Headless Cross, Hand Rocks The Cradile, Get A Grip. Interviews come from Ozzy & Geezer radio interview segments, Iommi from the Inside Black Sabbath dvd, Bobby Rondenelli, Glenn Hughes, Neil Murray are interviewed on camera for this dvd. And some music personalities such as Tommy Vance, Dougie White, Writers from Kerrang magazine are interviewed on camera. Severial pics of the band I've never seen B4 pop up from time to time on this release. The only problems I have with this set is alot of the concert footage i have collected over the years but I bet lots of Sabbath fans havnt yet so this would be great for them. Also The Tony Martin era is totally put down and talked bad about. The people on this set just trash the 10 years he was Sabbath's singer. But I do think Sabbath fans should get this.

5.0 out of 5 stars ignore those other reviews, February 27, 2009
This review is from: Black Sabbath: Master Of Reality (Special Edition) (DVD)
this is an insightful and revealing look into the creation of the music of black sabbath not a concert video. if you want to learn something about how they created what is essentially the blueprint for an entire genre of music then you will enjoy this set. i actually learned about who came up with what lyrics and Tony Iommi even reveals a few of his tricks for attaining his trademark sound. so ignore the other reviews they clearly did not get that this is a biographical piece not a live concert.

Forget the product review above. I own almost every BLACK SABBATH cd. What the back of the package refers to "limitations of the original film recording or the source material" wasn't a problem at all. What I saw of the original source material was great, the over play of words and vids were junk. IF you like documentaries with little music, this may work for you, but if you thought someone could play a song then do the interviews than a song, and not screw up the songs, this ain't it. You may blast me for rating this at good if offered at 80% off list but, I wanna play the song then fast forward through what the drummer was thinking while high; or better, use the skip button or chapter marks to get right to the live music footage. To recap; this is strickly a documentary.

all the other "master of reality" albums are good on amazon accept this year or make, tracks 7 and 8 are mixed up and theirs an extra track called embryo that comes from no where, its worth it to buy a more legit copy for like 5 bucks
