The Best from the Best, December 18, 2000
This review is from: Black Stone Tramp (Audio CD)
I saw this band live at the Scottish Heritage Festival in NJ about 4 years ago and have been unable to get enough of them ever since. I was always interested in celtic music but these guys made me an addict. Since then I have aquired a large collection of celtic rock and none of it comes close to the music of Brother. Black Stone Tramp is the best from this band. If you are the least bit interested in hearing incredible bag pipes then pick this albumn up. There are a few traditional pipe tunes mixed in with alot of original music and all of it rocks. The addition of the didgeridoo adds a spark of life and spice to a sound that already has you wanting to dance, sing and drum your hands and feet along. The more mellow tracks have thoughtful lyrics and a haunting sound. Particularly thought provoking is the track "Dirty Reeds" which transports you inside the despair of a dungeon prisoner. Close your eyes and you are down there in the dirt with him. Another noteworthy track is "Mr. Maintenance" an original tune that showcases the incredible piping prowess of these talented musicians. Also of interest is the song "Take you back" which was requested for the movie "Braveheart" by Mel Gibson (and in my opinion foolishly omitted from the soundtrack). All in all if you like the blend of traditional bag pipes and modern rock, then GET THIS ALBUMN!

Their best effort - the ultimate celtic rock cd, May 30, 1999
This review is from: Black Stone Tramp (Audio CD)
Since seeing them at a busker's festival on the waterfront in Windsor, Ont., I've been a fan. This album damn near made me a fanatic. Anyone who is a fan of celtic music should own this album (their "Exit to Screechville" a close second).
Great arraingements played with an abundance of energy, amazingly tight harmonies, lots of bagpipe & dijeridoo (never thought you'd hear either of those on a pop album before, did you? Here you get both!), and some great tunes ranging from straightforward pop/rock (with lots of great hooks and smart lyrics), to the occasional celtic reel. Personal favs include "Dirty Reeds", "Falling", "Mr. Maintanence", "The Clumsy Lover" and their BEST track to date, "All I Know". What a GREAT song! That one has singlehandedly converted many friends to Brother fans.
Again, if your a fan of celtic music, or just a serious fan of good pop/rock, you should own this, as well as other material by Brother. If you've seen them live and don't know where to start, this is the place. It don't get much better.

Ouch!, March 23, 2001

Brother has become one of the most exciting performers that I have ever seen. Their live chemistry can be felt in every studio venture that they've produced to date. The symbolic tapestry of each piece is combined with splendid harmonies, haunting overtures of bagpipes and the didgeridoo, that will entrance and delight music fans of all ages. Kinetic energies literally explodes from their discs. My ears have never tasted anything so good. 5 plus stars.
