If you like Pantera, White Zombie, NIN... you'll love this!, March 31, 1999

Hearing the cd for the first time was an experience one will never forget. It will be a regular rotation in you disc player. Substance D is what pure, heavy music is all about. It's good to know there are bands out there who still care about the way it sounds! Keep it up guys and let the fans know how to reach you or get more info on your shows!

A good purchase, but not the best CD in the world, June 16, 2000
This review is from: Black (Audio CD)
I bought this CD after I heard the samples for God and Slit The Wrist, since I absolutely loved them. Well, I got the CD today and am listening to it as I type. It's good, but not great. So far, God and Slit The Wrist are the only standout tracks.... Creep has some decent parts in it. Los Angeles has a little beginning thing, sorta like Clown from KoRn's debut, and it's not that bad of a song really, for an instrumental, althought it can't compare with any other famous instrumentals, although I doubt they were aiming for that. Superhuman shows a couple of different members of the band singing at different times in the song (or the vocalist has a really good range). Strange 48 has good lyrics dealing with drugs, but the song itself is interesting. The vocals are either sung drunkenly/"country like" or screamed silently, and there's acoustic guitar going constantly. Dark Gift is pretty cool. The beginning of Useless has a really cool riff and the rest is pretty good too, although it drags a little near the end. The first hidden track sounds like a 2 minute practice session and after a minute it goes weird, then it's quiet for about 45 seconds. The second hidden track is 5 minutes of a just them jamming away and it's arguably (I can't spell) the best track on the CD. After 5 minutes, it's quiet until 8 minutes where it picks up again with some recorded phone messages over a sweet guitar and drum beat. Best tracks: God, Slit the Wrist, Los Angeles, Dark Gift, Useless, and the last hidden track. Overall, it's a good purchase, but it's not like it's the best CD in the world.

Excellent! Scary creepy thrash, December 12, 2011

Oh ya, sometimes you just hear an album and it hits you just right! That's this album. Very raw sounding but highly recommended. As stated, stand out tracks are "God" and "Slit the Wrist" but man, the whole thing just slams. Do yourself and a favor and grab it. Love these guys
