5.0 out of 5 stars ride or die, August 13, 2005
This review is from: Black Thunder (Audio CD)
Doomriders...ok. Did anyone hear the latest offering from the the bronx? well if you did then you can understand what I mean when I call this dark yet dancy. What the bronx tried to capture and in many respects grasped on their newest release, has been perfected here by the doomriders. With an upbeat drum assault countered by insistent metal guitar work "Black thunder" takes all things enjoyable about hardcore and packs them into 13 drowning tracks.
with sing alongs like "get off my fu**ing back!" and bass work drawn from the same core as old man gloom, doomriders offer a challenging chunk of hardcore unlike anything else out today.
With hardcore finally finding a respectable place in the music scene and consequently everyone with a breakdown trying to make a name for themselves, it is very refreshing to hear the icons of the genre yet again reinventing their style and proving that it takes more than just a disgruntled attitude and a stolen guitar line to make worthwile records.
so you may be wondering what makes this record any different than the hundreds of hacks throwing records into the pile. well to start the doomriders seem to understand that if you are making heavy music you need to be aware of your song length. Many bands like to keep all their tracks around 3 to 4 minutes and in the case of hardcore maybe closer to 2 but the doomriders show that when an idea is spent you need to stop playing instead of killing what you have already created. Another standard I think the doomriders have reinforced here is the idea that if you are going to write 13 songs and put them on the same record they really should offer the listener different tastes of who you are. Much of hardcore today sounds like the band wrote(or more likely stole) one song and switched a few chords and breakdowns to make an entire full length. The doomriders show here that they are not afraid to show all they are capable of. Following heavy grooves with upbeat punk and interluding with heavy slow guitar beauty.
Overall a great release. A big thanks to Doomriders as well as a well earned congratulations. ride or die motherfu**ers!!

This album is kick ass, and so is Darkness Comes Alive. If you like the Bronx, or Converge you'll probably like these guys.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Thing Since Sliced Bread, October 1, 2010

I'm new to this band but boy am i glad I'm stumbled upon this album! This was amazing from start to finish; from the chunky guitar riffs to the very Lemmy inspired raspy vocals all kept together by some great rhythmic drums beats. There have been a lot of bands that have tried to pull this unique punk rock metal sound off and failed but fortunately these guys have done it. For fans of Entombed (later albums), The Bronx, Mastodon and even Motorhead. Enjoy this amazing piece of work; I'm sure as hell this is going to stick with me forever.
