Alannah Myles is not my usual cup of tea, to say the least, but Black Velvet is just so compelling, so folk-sih and rock-ish, that Ms. Myles has truly outdone herself.Myles builds on the tradition of the Southern femme fatale with great beauty in praise of Elvis, but she does so with this lovely, and compelling accompaniment that marks the track and its background. Truly between Myles's vocals and her beautiful arranging in the performance of the song, she has succeeded at a task which is all too often failed.

this is the sort of music that I wish I had written -- and sung -- and is often the victim of my singing when I'm doing housework. "Black Velvet" is simply the best ballad... ever.
