More About the Author

Carolyn Keene and Franklin W. Dixon are the pseudonyms under which many ghostwriters penned the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys series, respectively. Both series were created by Edward Stratemeyer, founder of the Stratemeyer Syndicate book packaging firm, in the late 1920s and early 1930s.

Stratemeyer's daughter, Harriet, and syndicate writer Mildred Wirt Benson were the two people primarily responsible for bringing the iconic character of Nancy Drew to life in the minds and hearts of millions of readers around the world.

If you are looking for the latest fashions in River Heights, you know that the place to go is Peppermint Penny's! Nobody else has better clothing that all the girls would love to have. And, because it's time for Nancy, Bess and George to start thinking about back-to-school clothes, they're doubly excited to be headed for Peppermint Penny's for a fashion show.

The hottest item in the entire event has got to be a gorgeous black velvet coat from Paris, and Nancy Drew has been chosen to be the model to show it off! Imagine how awful a surprise it is for everyone when that special Parisian coat is damaged before the show.

That snippy Brenda Carlton has publicly accused the culprit -- Nancy Drew!

Can Nancy save the show and her reputation? The suspects and clues are mounting, and it's going to take some serious detective work with her trusty blue notebook for America's favorite girl detective to crack The Black Velvet Mystery!
