From the Author
The book has had 15 consecutive favorable reviews in various publications. Readers comments have been universally good. Although written for woodland owners BLACK WALNUT is appreciated by naturalists, environmentalists, historians, philosophers and tree huggers. A sincere effort is made to explain and clarify the conflict between preservationists and conservationists.
Juglans nigra (black walnut) has a long history (at least 100 million years) and a life expectancy of about 250 years. Demands for the beautiful veneer of this tree have led to early and excessive harvest resulting in scarcity and rising values. Despite this, many woodland owners deglect their woodlands and do little to cultivate or culture this tree to improve either quality or quantity. Hopefully, readers who have timberland will correct this oversight and apply what they learn from this book.
