One word for Pendragon: Captivating,
By
This review is from: Black Water (Pendragon #5) (Paperback)
I have read all 5 of these books. Pendragon is a constant page turner. I could not stop reading these books. I probably like this series so much because I'm 15 years-old and I can relate to 14 year-old turning 15 Bobby Pendragon. Once you start reading this series you will not be able to stop, unless you don't understand. All that's wrong with this series is that there is a fifteen year-old who has some hardships, so sometime he curses, although it does decrease throughout the series. D.J. MacHale does an excellent job putting these books together. Although "The Reality Bug" book was a bit confusing.
Altogether these books are a great adventure especailly for mid- teenaged guys, not saying that girls won't like it. If you end one book or even one chapter he ends with a captivating word and sends you to go on, it's almost irresistable! Hobey-ho! Here we go!

The Rules Have Changed, But The Story Hasn't,
By Dan Hoppel Jr. (Dunmore, PA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Black Water (Pendragon #5) (Paperback)
D.J. MacHale's newest addition to the Pendragon series follows Bobby Pendragon to the jungle territory of Eelong, a world where humans are slaves and intelligent jungle cats rule the land. But there is a plague that is threatening to destroy Eelong, a plague that is hauntingly familiar to Bobby and the Travelers. Bobby soon discovers, after his failure on Veelox, that Saint Dane is changing the rules, and Bobby must make a monumental choice that will either save the territory of Eelong from total devastation, or throw all of Halla into danger.
MacHale is a master storyteller, deftly combining hair-raising action, fantastic adventure, edge-of-your-seat, nail-biting suspense, and a bit of romance into the most surprising and twisted Pendragon story yet. Anyone who is a fan of the series will breeze through this book, eagerly devouring every bit of information and ultimately waiting impatiently for the next jump into the flume. For those who have never read a Pendragon book before, this is a great place to introduce yourself to not one whole new world, but ten whole new worlds that will take your breath away. Mr. MacHale should be commended over and over again on such a wonderful piece of literary art.

Can Bobby Pendragon Outsmart Saint Dane yet again?,
By Veronica "JonVon" (P~ville!) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Black Water (Pendragon #5) (Paperback)
Cats can walk, they can talk, and they keep humans as pets? What's the matter with this picture? And since when are Mark Diamond and Courtney Chetywynde able to flume through space like their dear friend Bobby Pendragon, a fifteen year old traveler from Second Earth? Saint Dane said that the rules have changed, but have they really?
As I picked up the fifth installment of the Pendragon series I didn't really think twice of how weird this one was going to be. Bobby Pendragon has been to some pretty strange places and Eelong is just what I have been waiting for in this suspenseful, exhilarating, and all around great series. Let's go back a few books: Bobby Pendragon has a normal life, a great family, an awesome best friend, a wonderful reputation at school, and good grades. He has just hooked up with the girl of his dreams, Courtney Chetywynde. His life is going as planned until the infamous Uncle Press shows up at Bobby's house. Uncle Press is the uncle every kid wanted. He has a motorcycle, he takes Bobby skiing, and is so cool. But little did Bobby know that his awesome uncle had a major part in saving all of Halla. Halla, which is everything, every time, and anything that exists, consists of ten planets. Press brings Bobby to an old alleyway in the city. Bobby, still confused as to why he is being dragged from his big basketball game of the season, taken from his house, and stripped of his life, is told the secret that will forever change his life, and everyone else's. Bobby is the next traveler from Second Earth, what we know and call Earth, and must go with Press to try and stop the evil Saint Dane from corrupting Halla, and destroying everything Bobby ever knew. Unfortunately Press is lost on the planet of Cloral, in trying to save it. Now Bobby is on his own and is still confused to what everything is and why Saint Dane is so evil. Bobby has succeeded in every task so far, except that of Veelox (The planet from book four). There the minds of the inhabitants are lost in a dream world with no escape. Bobby, and the traveler from Veelox, Aja, have tried to save the planet but in doing so created chaos and now everyone on Veelox is back in the game of fantasy, and there is no escape. (If you read book four you know what I'm talking about). Back to book five. Bobby travels to Eelong in search of the evil Saint Dane. Little does he know what to expect. Back home, on Second Earth, Bobby's closest friends, Courtney and Mark, are awaiting the long expected journal from Bobby. Instead, they receive a message from another acolyte saying they need to go the flume on Second Earth. There, Mark accidentally activates the flume and Saint Dane appears before their very eyes. He tells Mark and Courtney that the rules have changed, leaving them with a small gift. After that experience Mark and Courtney do not know what to do and then all of a sudden, Bobby appears, frantically yelling and asking them what happened. When he returns to Eelong, the soon to be acolyte Boon is awaiting his return. Things are bad on Eelong, and sadly Bobby has no idea what Saint Dane's plans are for this strange planet. Boon takes Bobby to the city of Leeandra, "a city built in the air. Wooden huts of all sizes doting the sides of the trees, and busy sky bridges everywhere. The structures were high overhead and down low, with the lowest buildings only about twenty yards off the ground. The city was big. It all looked to be manufactured out of natural material. Wood, bamboo and woven vines. Nothing metal or plastic..." That is how Bobby describes the beautiful Klee city of Leeandra. But what's a Klee? Klee is what the cats on Eelong are called. Humans on Eelong are called gars. What makes this book unique to all the others is that it is the first time Bobby has been to a planet where everything is flipped. Cats are superior to humans, and humans are treated like dirt. And now Saint Dane has genocide in mind. He plans on starting the process by repealing Edict Forty - Six, which states that the Klees cannot hunt the gars. Yikes! So, Saint Dane believes that once one planet of Halla falls, they will "all tumble like dominoes." Saint Dane has Bobby thinking that this is all about Edit Forty-Six, but in all reality Saint Dane has a second agenda. Mark and Courtney decide that they MUST go to Cloral to find the traveler Spader because they believe that the same poison that was used in book number two will be used again on Eelong. Bobby thinks he has it all figured out. But does he? Black Water is an excellent book, one of the best I've ever read. It kept me wanting to know what was going to happen and I couldn't put it down. If you liked the first four Pendragon books, you'll love Book Five: Black Water. If you haven't read any of them yet, I really think that you should get reading!

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Black Water (Pendragon #5) (Paperback)
i have read all five of the pendragon books that are out now and i just want to spread the word that they are totally awesome. the author makes up worlds that are similiar to ours but in ways completely different and i personally love seeing each new world with each book. and for those of you who have looked at the book and thought that it looks a little long, i am here to tell you that they are long but the way that they are written always leaves you wanting more. the choices that the main characters make may be on other territories but you can still totally relate to the tough choices of not knowing what to do and thinking that something you did was the right thing and turns out to be the wrong thing. this book was especially good (or at least i thought so) because its about a world of cats that are ,of course, at a turning point in their world and thats all im gonna tell the rest you have to read and find out for yourself, and when you do i know you'll be happy about it!

Pendragon: Black Water - a review by Artemis
Just as Bobby thinks he knows everything about being a traveler, which is to protect the territories of Halla from Saint Dane, he gets put into new situation. The beings on Eelong are in danger of death, and the only way Bobby can save them is to bring over a cure from a different territory. But this is against the traveler rules. So if Bobby tries to save Eelong, he is endangering his friends, the other travelers, and the fate of Halla itself. The fifth book in D.J. MacHale's Pendragon series is the most suspenseful and exciting yet! In this book, Bobby has to deal is racism. He's on a territory (world) where the dominate species aren't human, but Klees, huge walking talking jungle cats! The Klees servants are humans called gars. But these humans have no intelligence - Or so they appear... As Bobby hinds out the hideous truth, he realizes the only way to keep the territory safe, is to protect Black Water.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Black Water (Pendragon #5) (Paperback)
I am a sixth grader. I thought this was the best book series I have ever read. I love the Pendragon Series. This is perhaps the best out of the last 4.In Black Water, 15 year old Bobby Pendragon is on yet another mission to stop Saint Dane, the evil traveler that is trying to control the universe or better referred to as Halla. Halla is every time, place, person and thing that ever was. Saint Dane's mission is to destroy all ten territories (planets) by influencing the people of that territory to bring about their own destruction, which then, after he has taken enough power, will rule them. Then there are the travelers. They are the last generation of the "good guys" trying to prevent Saint Dane from ruling Halla. And Bobby finds out he's one of them, destined to be pulled out of everything he knows to be normal to go out and fight an evil guy who has "issues". In this adventure, Bobby finds himself on the territory of Eelong where humans aren't treated as humans. This world is run by tiger-looking jungle cats who live in a unique place to escape from prehistoric-looking beasts. Humans are treated horribly, like animals but worse than you can imagine. Death of humans who are addressed as "gars" is part of everyday life. But food is running short scince the only meat they eat is a chicken-like bird, and the law that forbids the hunting of gars is coming dangerously close to being banished. And to make matters worse a deadly poison is lurking around that Saint Dane could use to destroy all of Eelong. Will Bobby stop him? Packed with non-stop action, surprises, twists and turns D.J. MacHale once again astoneshes all with another grand adventure in the Pendragon series. Again, I give this book all my praise, as I highly recommend this to any one who loves to read and craves action. This is a book all will love. I really encourage you to read Pendragon Book Five: Black Water. Hobey-Ho!

Can Bobby Pendragon, lead traveler, prevail once again?,
By Jacob Wasserman "Jacob W" (Bak, MSOA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Black Water (Pendragon #5) (Paperback)
. Up until he was 14 years old, Bobby Pendragon had a great life, an awesome Uncle who would take him on motorcycle rides and get him a computer so new it wasn't even on the markets, his best friend Mark Dimond who was always there for him. To top it all off, he was the star point guard on his school basketball team. Then, on that chilly night, after talking to his friend who he'd had a crush on for ages, his Uncle whisks him away into an abandoned subway, only to change his life forever. As Bobby finds himself on an ancient primitive planet, Uncle Press explains to him about his duty as a traveler and his job in protecting all of Halla, (every planet, time, and every human being) from the evil Saint Dane. After their trip to Cloral, uncle Press perishes, leaving Bobby to his own good judgement. After successfully protecting Denduron, Cloral, and his home territories of earth, Bobby finds him self at a loss, when Saint Dane successfully drives the territory Veelox into chaos. In his newest chase and protection, Bobby finds him self on the jungle territory of Eelong, where anything but normal is to be found. Cats that walk, cats that talk, and cats that keep humans for pets! Next thing he knows, Bobby finds him self battling against the rules of the territories, convinced that since Saint Dane has changed the rules of nature by winning his first territory, and begins to mix the territories. Meanwhile, back on second earth, Bobby's acolytes Mark and Courtney receive a message, instead of their long awaited journal from Bobby, telling them to hurry towards the flume (a portal through time and space, transferring travelers from one territory to the next). When the pair get there, they are confronted with Saint Dane themselves, and he leaves them a message, as well as taunting Bobby. As Bobby finds out Saint Dane's newest plan for chaos, can he break the rules of nature to restore order to a desperate territory, and ultimately, put a stop to Saint Dane's goal?

Pendragon,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Black Water (Pendragon #5) (Paperback)
I think that book number five of the Pendragon series (Black Water) is the best of them all. Once you start reading the series you can't stop. In this book I could actually relate to the humor and understand it. I would like it much more if he didn't use inappropriate language as much, although it did decrease throughout the series. The territory Eelong is kind of like marshland. This planet is ruled by Klees, they are giant walking jungle cats that can speak and do everything a human can. Unfortunately the humans also called gars are the slaves of the Klees and are thought to have no intelligence whatsoever, but something mysterious is happening. The gars keep talking about a mythical place called Black Water. Each of the gars owns a small crystal looking jewel and whenever the Klees see it the gars get scared. You have to read the ending to find out what happens to the gars and what planet Saint Dane is off to next. (if you read the book you'll know what I mean)

Great Book! The worst of the series, though...,
By Luke "The Nerdy Supergenius" (Illinois) - See all my reviews

This was an excellent book. I had to keep reading and reading because D.J. MacHale heeps you hanging and hanging. Although this is one of the best books I read, it is the worst in the series. Don't get me wrong, it is definitely worth reading, D.J. MacHale is starting to fall with this one. Hopefully D.J. will start speeding up with his writing (but still do the superior job I know him for) because the last 10 pages, probably the turning point in the series, kept me hanging.
PEOPLE: READ THESE BOOKS! They are the greatest sci-fi/fantasy books out there for both kids, teens, and adults. Even if you're not a fan of sci-fi or fantasy, you can easily get into these books. They are something for everyone. The only downside of these books is they don't last you long. If you get into them like I do, you're going to read them in about 4 or 5 days maximum. Just buy the series, people.

Black Water is the fifth in a series of amazing books. This time the rules have changed and the book is back with so many twists that I couldn't put it down. I got the book yesterday and read it straight through to the end. I am a total fan of the series and I can only say buy and read all the books! PS. Eelong is much more exciting than Veelox. Hobey-ho!
