The music one hears on the radio these days calling itself Rock truly offers no depth except catchy lyrics and the same played out riffs. Black Water Rising stands apart from the rest and rejuvenates the scene with low end bass lines and down trodden guitar riffs that would be commonplace on a Sabbath recording. The vocals aren't the same rough grunting tone heard by most Hard Rock groups and Rob's audible tones are on point as well as being backed by strong lyrics with something more to say then the usual Modern Rock cliche of how some girl ripped out his heart.

Fore the most part BWR stays at a mid pace with a ton of groove to keep you hooked. Though the band does kick up the pace occasionally such as the head bang worthy romp "Blessed" where we hear chugging gritty riffs and bombastic drums. Though where this album stands apart most from the hundreds of cloned Rock groups these days are the melodic guitar leads. These leads can range from simple tinge backdrop to roaring solo's and truly show a progressive edge. Safe to say I enjoyed the groovy and harsh guitars that BWR succeeds at.

All in all I have to admit this band unlike any other popular group out today truly grasps what we need to hear more of in today's Rock industry, Musicianship. Few bands that have a solid fan base now-a-day's show any true skill except simple hard riffs and maybe a catchy, short and often extremely simplistic lead solo here and there. BWR prove that there is still creativity to be found in today's Rock N Roll universe. Strongly recommended to fans of the Hard, Groovy, Southern Rock styles.

As other reviews suggest, this is a great hard rock release. I am so glad I hunted it down. I happened to hear the song 'Brother Go On' on the digital MusicChannel from my cable company. Could not recall the name of the band at first but I had to follow up on the lead. I found them here on Amazon and man am i happy! Nice heavy BLS vibe, and in fact better than the last couple releases by Zack and Co. Not quite a crunchy as say Down. If possible, 'Burn It Down' may just be the next track on here. If you like Nickleback - you may not like this CD. Agree with reviews that describe the good riffs and singing. If these guys come to town, i am going to be in line. Oh, I hate to compare to other bands too much as it makes it sound derivative, which these guys are not, but one or two songs hit a groove in a similar way that STP did when they were in their prime. Anyway, I endorse this 100% and really look forward to see what they come out with for second release. Good sound quality for the music, not overly cranked up in the mix to ruin the playback with being to loud. Awesome for listening too in the car.

I initially heard of Black Water Rising through MySpace of all places. I can safely say that BWR is pure, unadulterated rock and roll. If you like heavy music, melodic riffs, and old style heavy metal, you will love this album. Take one part Black Sabbath, one part Black Label Society, add a dash of Monster Magnet, and top with a hint of Zepplin.

solid band, solid sound but nothing that will blow you away... "brother go on" comes close though

Actually pretty impressive. I took a leap of faith buying this cd not having heard anything from these guys. The only downside to this cd is the mixing, which is great in spots, not in others. Vocals are too low and hard to understand, the cymbols are not in unison with the drum mix. With that said, the guitars sound beautiful. Alot of kick in certain areas. I'd say these guys are a cross between Dark New Day and Black Stone Cherry. Good cd.

I bought this album on just one pass of the 30 second clips from Amazon. I knew from that abbreviated listen that I was going to like it. I also had heard the song "Brother Go On" on Sirius radio's Octane. The album is actually more than just that one song. it is filled with 11 priceless gems that could have been released at any time over the past 30 years and been great.

I'm really tired of trying to categorize a band, so let me just say that anyone who likes Hard Rock, from the 70's through today would make a great investment in buying this CD. There's not a filler-cut on the disc and you will easily become familiar with these memorable songs. It's $10 that will be well spent!

This cd is fantastic although they look like a hard rock southern band ,there music is more indie soundind like a cross between soundgarden ,velet revolver ,and a little led zepplin.The standouts are hate machine ,blessed, brother go on ,sale on your soul.The music is well written and played ,and they are clearly one of the new bands that rock and roll has to offer for 2010.Buy thid cd and yoy wont be dissapointed.

If you like raw, riffy, hard rocking metal...this is for you. From beginning to end, this album is chock full of some of the nastiest rhythm grooves you will ever hear. Pure speaker candy with motor-like riffage. The sound quality is very upfront, and will punish the finest of speakers. The vocals are fantastic. This album literally fell in my lap on the web like it was destined for my collection. It should be destined for yours.

Hailing from the city the never sleeps come...a southern metal band? Stepped in what? Black Water Rising are a group comprised of former members of Dust to Dust, StereoMud and Boiler Room, so I kind of knew what to expect once the disc started playing, but, is that a good thing...or a bad thing?

"The Mirror" opens the record with a swamp buggy southern style swagger that quickly turns into a sludge factory of bottom heavy riffage. Right from the start, you can tell that Black Water Rising draw influence from bands like C.O.C, Dark New Day, Medication (remember that "super group" with Whitfield Crane and Logan Mader...no? Most don't either) and even Queens of the Stone Age.

Unless you have been living under a rock or just don't have SIRIUS radio, you would have heard the first single "Brother Go On" by now. The song has been blowing up the satellite charts as it well should. It's a totally catchy tune that has enough sonic wallop to make you forget that these guys are still unsigned.

If I had just one gripe on the record as a whole, it would be that Traynor's vocals at certain times veer off in to this almost late 80's direction that I usually can't stand. But he quickly reigns it back in and regains the raspy snarl that makes him such a good vocalist.

For those of you that are still in shock that I said they draw from Medication and Queens of the Stone Age...well yes they do...so either be extremely stoked or run for the hills. Songs like "Hate Machine" and "Blessed" have some of those quirky QOTSA and almost punk Medication stylings, but they are interchanged "awesomely" (is that a real word?) with thick southern groove goodness...so it's a perfect mixture of sweet and salty.

Like I said in the beginning, I may have known what to expect but it was totally a good thing, So grab a beer, put on your sleeveless denim shirt, let your mullet down and get in your Camaro because this cd will rock your trailer park!

A great debut cd from a band that just plain rocks.Anyone that loves hardrock will love this band, you won't be dissapointed.
