Brilliant debut album by a superb new R&B band,

Having seen this band live I can only say that when you listen to the cd you will only partly capture their true brilliance on stage. This is one band that is so tight and together. Roach, the lead singer, has the best voice since Tina Turner hit the scene in the 60's. This album has to be in my top ten all time greats, even though I have only had it for one week. Since I got my copy it has heardly been off my player(s), in car/home/discman. I cannot get the bass pattern off track 8 out of my head ! Believe me - If you can catch them live you will not be disappointed. This is one of the best debut albums ever !

The Best Since Tina,

I first read about Cafe R&B in a blues magazine.A blues band with a lead singer named Roach intrigued me.I went to the Whole Lotta Blues web site and listened to a sample.I was stunned by what I heard. If you like this album, check out the other album,"Blues and All The Rest" The last time I heard anything like this was probably Ike and Tina Turner. Iown both cd's and I play them over and over.Haven't done that in a long time.

ARE THEY FOR REAL???,

This is terrific stuff! The band knows what they are doing (read the reviews!) and Roach is a one-woman POWERHOUSE! Byl Carruther's guitar and songwriting skills are uncompromised and pure. If you can't see them in person, this is the next best thing. Also, check out their new cd, "Blues and All The Rest". You won't be sorry!

THIS ONE'S A KEEPER,

I've been looking for a band to get me over my bloomfield-goldberg-butterfield slump. I am back to life! Roach has picked me up and blown me away with her own authentic style of blues. Someone please bring this band to San Francisco! They must be seen live...I've never before seen this much electricity and synergy onstage in a small venue. Buy "Black and White" and ask for their CD, "Blues and All the Rest." Check out their version of "Killin' Floor" and their own original tunes, and watch for them in the future. This band is going places.

THIS CD WILL WAKE YOU UP,
By Brenda Smith (Burbank, CA) - See all my reviews

Especially after you see this band in person. Roach is in a class all her own and is so fantastic, she couldn't live up to her own name performance after performance; it would be humanly impossible. Every song in this CD will give you chills -- especially "Steppin'" "Phone Call From Leavenworth," and "Smokestack Lightning."In interest of their next CD, "Our Town," "Tobacco Road," "Snatch it Back and Hold It," should put them on the charts. If not, there is absolutely NO JUSTICE in the music industry! -- BJ

The band is incredible ! I just saw them live tonight and I must say that they were amazing ! The singer was on the floor belting out tremenous vocals. The lead guitarist was truly shredding !Bass and drums were tight, and the keyboard player was truly a virtuoso.... This is hardcore blues with a funky kick at times. This is the best live band I have seen in a long time !

This is just flat out fantastic blues music. The vocals are unforgettable and the musicianship is first rate throughout. My personal favorite is Black Cat Blues, but this album is packed with great material. Don't wait...buy it now!

Real Women Sing the Blues!,
By P. Giorgio "TheWriter" (Illinois) - See all my reviews

Café R&B: Don't Wake Me (In the Morning) Whoa! Strong bass opens this wailer... Roach - the singer is just terrific... she looks young and sounds old. The searing, ripping guitar lays atop that walking bass line and stirs up a woman's fancy... Sensuous, sexy and hot! A delicate little piano trill brings it back down to the vocalist... this is a songstress.... Who ARE these people? This is the voice Janis was working on. I hear born-again gospel screaming, pleading, longing .... She (Roach!) is unbelievable.... Steppin': The musicians here are tight ... two songs in a row of tremendous rock & roll... Tina talks through this woman... there is Bonnie Rate and Tracy Nelson (from Mother Earth, many years ago!). We concentrate on vocalists like this, but this no shabby backup group.. .they are a solid unit... what a rush! The piano insinuates itself like an itch you just can't scratch.

This is one of the bes CD's I have heard in a long while. If you are a Blues fan, then this CD is a must. If it is not in your collection, then your collection is worthless. It is a must to see them live. This band is TIGHT.

I loved it! This CD is a must have for any true Blues, R&B, Jazz or Rock & Roll fan. My favorite tracks are "Free" and "Get Your Hand Outta My Pocket". I here that they are going on tour to Europe. I gotta catch their live show one more time before leave LA.
