This three CD set is pretty interesting, following in the wave of re-releasing everything Bowie in a special edition. (Is it just me or has that been happening like crazy over the past few years?) Here's what you get:
1. The album itself, David Bowie's "Black Tie, White Noise" of 1993, his first solo album after ending Tin Machine and also a collaboration with Nile Rodgers (producer of Let's Dance) Is this album a Let's Dance II? Nah. It sort of has the same bluesy feel, but Let's Dance was way more pop-oriented. Black Tie has a lot of classic stuff on it, with only a few forgettable tracks. Really a great feel for Bowie, something he hadn't really done before. The album itself is definately worth getting.
2. A Remix CD. Mostly remixes of songs on the album, also thrown in is "Real Cool World" from the movie of the same name and "Lucy Can't Dance" an outtake from Black tie. These pretty much are the best things on the cd, but that's mostly because I never saw the point of remixes myself. Expendable.
3. An "interview disc" It is possible to see that a really cool interview was conducted upon the release of Black Tie, White Noise, but we don't get a lot of it. It's cut and pasted all over the place, which is annoying. Still, it's a good interview, and we get several studio videos (like music videos except they're just stage performances...not live) and those are neat. At the end they throw in the three music videos for the album, which are neat. And the end credits seem to reveal alot about portions of the "Miracle Goodnight" video that didn't make the final cut.
All in all, if you don't already have the videos and you've got money to burn (or you are a die hard fan) then this is worth a look. Otherwise, the album itself is really all you need.
