The Maine - Black and White

You're the type that knows what music is all about. The careful melodies, the heartfelt lyrics, the catchy hooks and vocal harmony. To you, it doesn't matter whether a band wears matching t-shirts or whether they take the stage sporting the latest trend. It's all about the music. And that's a good thing, because The Maine feels the very same way.

Editorial Reviews

Recorded in California with Grammy-nominated producer Howard Benson (My Chemical Romance, The All-American Rejects) 'Black & White' sees The Maine stepping out of their comfort zone and creating a cohesive body of work that is an 'album' in the most traditional sense of the word.

'This time we really wanted to focus on the songwriting and make sure all the songs were great so no matter where on the disc you are you can tell it's an album instead of a bunch of songs that are thrown together, you know?' Kirch explains. From unexpectedly dark pop gems like 'Inside Of You' to nostalgic summertime ballads like 'Growing Up,' each track on 'Black & White' defies categorization yet still retains the signature sound that has endeared The Maine to fans around the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars The next big Alt Rock band October 30, 2010
By Luke K.
Format:Audio CD
I first heard about The Maine after I heard them on Punk Goes Classic Rock. I really enjoyed their cover of Pour Some Sugar on Me. While I clearly enjoy the original by Def Lep more, their cover was very solid. Anyway, I looked into the band and after reading nothing but good things about Black & White I went ahead and bought it. Needless to say, it was a very wise purchase, these guys can rock. These guys aren't screamers, they aren't metalcore, and they aren't punk. They're good ol' alternative rock. With a style similar to that of Matchbox Twenty, Third Eye Blind, and the Goo Goo Dolls. With a touch of a southern rock sound on a few songs in the guitar, and little bit of Tom Petty if you listen to the opening track "Don't Stop Now". From start to finish this album delivers. My personal favorites are "Don't Stop Now", "Right Girl", and "Give It To Me".

Album Review:

1. Don't Stop Now ***** - This song kicks off the album in a awesome way. Nice and catchy and rocks all the way through. A touch of country can be heard in the guitar style for this song.

2. Right Girl **** - A song that really makes you listen to the lyrics that are always changing and telling a story about a relationship with a girl. Really catchy and one of my favorite tracks on the album.

3. Growing Up **** - The title is pretty self explanatory, this is a great ballad about how growing up isn't all that bad.

4. Fuel to the Fire *** - Not one of the better tracks but solid none the less. I still find myself singing along to it every once in awhile.

5. Inside of You *** - This song is pretty much about a girl that wants to get with a guy she likes but feels she's too young. But even as she gets older she's still hesitant to be with the guy she loves.

This is by far the best album The Maine has put out. They have matured so much from their best albums, and found the sound they always wanted, and it fits perfectly for them. Everyone should grab a copy, I'm sure you will all LOVE it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best album yet by this band July 17, 2010
Format:Audio CD
They were very wise to team up with Howard Benson for this release. The songs are abundantly catchy and extremely well produced. I like this much better than All American Rejects' last one.
