5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!
Satire at its best...

This is a great collection of C & F drawings. C & F clearly belong to the right (in all meanings of the term...) side of the political spectrum, being hard core capitalists, fiscal conservatives, strong on defense, and liberal in terms of government's role in social issues (minimal).

With this, they take on both the left and the Bush...

3.0 out of 5 stars Shades of Gray I
Like a lot of conservatives, I first discovered Cox & Forkum after 9-11, and like a lot of conservatives, I was initially thrilled by the implications of the title "Black & White World" because I, too, was heartily sick of the nonexistent "shades of gray" liberals kept imagining in order to avoid the obvious. However, after reading through a book full of their cartoons,...

Satire at its best...

This is a great collection of C & F drawings. C & F clearly belong to the right (in all meanings of the term...) side of the political spectrum, being hard core capitalists, fiscal conservatives, strong on defense, and liberal in terms of government's role in social issues (minimal).

With this, they take on both the left and the Bush administration.

Their drawings advocate a hyper vigorous response to terrorism, and minimal intervention of the government in any issue other than protecting the rights of Americans.

Beyond this, the art belongs to the best of political satire.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most intelligent political cartoons you can find., October 5, 2004

This review is from: Black & White World: Editorial Cartoons by Cox & Forkum (Paperback)
I've been a fan of Cox and Forkum for a few years. I'm glad to see many of their cartoons compiled into this volume. There are no other political cartoons I've seen that are more consistently on point than those of Cox and Forkum.

In response to the negative reviews, I'll just quickly point out one fact neglected in one. Cox and Forkum's cartoons are in fact occasionally published in "reputable publications":

I see little need to comment further on the negative reviews posted thus far as they are clearly nothing more than smears and ad hominem attacks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great editorial cartoons!, March 28, 2004
This review is from: Black & White World: Editorial Cartoons by Cox & Forkum (Paperback)
I first saw John Cox & Allen Forkum's editorial cartoons in a magazine called The Intellectual Activist. The great combination of John's spot-on images and Allen's hard-hitting text lines is truly unique. The cartoons are demanding your full attention and give you something to think about. Could you see the difference between good and evil?

You will find cartoons and commentaries on the following topics:
Osama bin Laden, War on Terrorism, Islamism, Israel, Yasser Arafat. George W. Bush, Leftists, Media, Politics, Economics, and Miscellaneous issues, e.g., America as the world police.

The book ends with an interview with Cox & Forkum. For more interviews and information, do a search online.

I look forward to Black & White World II, and I hope to see their editorial cartoons in a newspaper in the near future.

Both from its artistic value and for its political content, this book excels. Cox & Forkum are modern classics. I'm looking forward eagerly for the second edition. Hope to see it soon in Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clever, intelligent editorial cartoons galore, December 2, 2004
This review is from: Black & White World: Editorial Cartoons by Cox & Forkum (Paperback)
As an editor of a paper which utilizes their work, I have been incredibly impressed with the work they put forth. Cox's skill at the brush and Forkum's personality combine wonderfully to produce a delightful volume of their editorial cartoons. Left, right, middle are all potential targets of their objectivist nature. While it may seem a little right-leaning at first, Cox and Forkum spread blame where it is due and deserved.

As time passes on, their work continue to grow stronger. This book is a great source of funny, intelligent, and thought-provoking editorial cartoons.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intelligent pro-American editorial cartooning, March 29, 2004
By
This review is from: Black & White World: Editorial Cartoons by Cox & Forkum (Paperback)
Simply put, Cox and Forkum draw (with considerable artistic talent) editorial cartoons that have a decidedly pro-American, pro-Israel, pro-War-On-Terror bend to them. They do not engage in kneee-jerk jingoism, but rather offer intelligent and thoughtful responses to the often thoughtless anti-American opinions expressed by many other cartoonists.

Cox and Forkum not mindless Bush fanboys, either. They have criticized the preisdent for many things, such as his propensity to blow budgets...and of course they make fun of Democrats also. Equal opportunity fun, with a strong pro-American bent. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cox and Forkum - Seeing it Clearly and Cleverly, March 30, 2004
By
This review is from: Black & White World: Editorial Cartoons by Cox & Forkum (Paperback)
Simply put -- the most insightful and pleasing political cartoons made today. The artwork is as superb as the ideas.

This book takes aim bad ideas of Republicans and Democrats alike. It puts America, Democracy and Freedom above all else. Any lover of liberty and common-sense will be nodding their head along with each cartoon. Islamists, anti-american and anti-semitic folks beware -- Cox and Forkum have you nailed.

These guys do fantastic work. You will absolutely not see this type of work on the editorial pages of any newspaper in the country, but I hope someday we all might. With each picture and few choice words, they capture a truly rational outlook on life.

I could have read the entire book in less than an hour, but I found myself closing it after every 15 or so pages just to make it last. I took mine to work and I leave it on the corner of my desk for visitors to browse. (One of my favorites happens to be the cover art.) I've also made a habit of visiting their web site for a daily dose.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who reads the newspaper each day and wonders why the worldwide press and our political leaders get so much so wrong so often.

Cutting through the mainstream media's obfuscation, C&F reveal the essentials of a topic with wit and clarity, with mirth aimed at the laughable, and poignancy at the tragic.
