I don't know what's up with Miss Delaware, but I couldn't put this book down once I started it, which explains why I'm here at 2:30 in the morning writing a glowing review for Laurie Breton. "Black Widow" is suspense at its best--a chilling read that'll keep you glued to the book, turning page after page until you reach the end. I look forward to more work by this debut author!

This book was extremely hard to find. But TOTALLY worth the wait!! Kept me on the edge and wondering how the whole thing would end. Truly loved it. See by the last page she has her 2nd book out (Sept 2000) - but haven't found it yet. Hope she's on a roll - as her first book is a definite keeper.

Fabulous book--a must buy for lovers of romantic suspense!,
This review is from: Black Widow (Paperback)
In 1994, Michael McAllister arrived home a happy and successful young man. A loving wife, well-to-do parents, a prestigious job all made his life a good one. Until he was murdered in his own home and left for his wife to find. In 1998 Kathryn McAllister is finally released from prison where she's spent the last 4 years, after being tried and found guilty of her husbands brutal murder. No one in her home town of Elba, North Carolina had fought for her, instead convicting her the minute the police took her away from the scene. Now she's out, and she alone plans on finally finding her husbands real murderer. Chief Nicholas DiSalvo left his high profile job to get away after the accidental death of his partner. Small town Elba seemed the perfect place to escape--until Kathryn McAllister stormed into his office and turned his world upside down. Seems whoever had reason to kill Michael McAllister all those years ago is still in Elba, and they are dead serious about Kathryn not finding out the truth. ------------------ 'Black Widow' is one of those books that doesn't come along every day. It is the kind of book I expect from a seasoned, much published writer who has the experience and confidence to write such strong characters and well thought out plot. I did put it down to sleep but only because the page turning was keeping my husband awake. Otherwise, this would have been a one-sitting read. This book is a must for anyone who enjoys romantic suspense. Both storylines--the murder and the romance--are so well written that the reader is pulled in and never let go. I thought I had the murder wrapped up several times, but the authors' skill kept proving me wrong. Yet never once did I feel the storyline was contrived--instead it flowed and twisted and turned, all at a perfect pace to keep me totally absorbed. Laurie Breton has crafted a wonderfully written suspense story. I am really excited that she has another story coming from Neighborhood Press in January because this is one author I will add to my automatic buy list. Congratulations Laurie, on an incredible first book! ~sue Sue Waldeck Road to Romance

My sister and I both agreed this was the best romantic suspense we had read in a very long time! We are both avid book readers and found this one to be our favorite as neither of us could put it down until we were finished. I purchased this book after reading your reviews and have definitely added Laurie Breton to the top of my list for exciting romantic suspense!

Black Widow,
This review is from: Black Widow (Paperback)
Kathryn McAllister spent four years in prison after being convicted of killing her husband Michael, but she didn't do it, so when the conviction was overturned and she is released; Kathryn heads back to Elba, North Carolina to find the killer.
Nick DiSalvo is the police chief in Elba. After an intense career as New York cop and an ugly divorce, Nick is looking for peace and quiet. When Kathryn comes back to town searching for her husband's killer, she disrupts his sedate life. Before long, the sparks between Nick and Kathryn ignite as they search for the killer. They're digging up some dirty town secrets in the process and a lot of people want them to stop. Kathryn is desperate to find out who is behind Michael's murder but she may get her self killed in the process. Black Widow has strong characterization, it is rich in suspense and romance, and has a riveting storyline. Kathryn is tough yet vulnerable, and Nick is very sexy. With a fantastic ending filled with thrills, chills and surprises, as well as a heartwarming moment between Nick and Kathryn, Black Widow is a terrific story. Nannette reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

Great debut book!,

I'd heard a lot about Laurie Breton's debut novel and when I was lucky enough to finally reader I had to agree. It's very well crafted, with believable characters, and a tight plot.I found myself liking Kathryn, who definitely bears the mark of having spent all that time in prison when she was accused of killing her husband, and she has such a hard time when she returns to the town where they lived, and tries to prove someone else killed him. Great book, and I look forward to the next one!
