Inspiring Resource for Libraries and Living Rooms,
By
This review is from: Black Women in America (3 Vol. Set) (Hardcover)
Black Women in America is the most authoritative resource for African-American Women's History on the market. Published by England's Oxford University Press, it explores the historical contributions of Black women to American life. The 3 volume set is enormous in scope, yet is presented in well illustrated compact volumes. Biographies and critical essays illuminate the past from America's Revolutionary War Era to the present. Black Women in America is an inspiring resource for libraries and living rooms. This well researched encyclopedia set reminds us of the noble ideals that make America great.

Surprisingly Disappointed,
By
This review is from: Black Women in America: An Historical Encyclopedia (2 Volume set) (Paperback)
I a relative and descendent to Sarah Parker Remond am truly disappointed in the information listed. Still researching my family history cannot begin to tell you how I was utterly dumbfounded when I read she was primarily self-taught. Actually, she was educated formally, yet her family abolitionists and outspoken business owners in protest left their lucrative business and moved to RI where segregation was not the case and she was educated their until the laws where changed in Massachusetts, where she was born.
She later was educated in Italy and received a degree to become a medical doctor. Yes, you are correct she married and never returned.

This review is from: Black Women in America: An Historical Encyclopedia (2 Volume set) (Paperback)
The encyclopedia is filled with information that some is valid, while some information is not valid. Upon further research I discovered discrepancies - irritating. I bought the encyclopedia for a condense version of information, but ended using to many other sources to validate the outcomes.

This review is from: Black Women in America (3 Vol. Set) (Hardcover)
I had acquired years ago, as a gift the first HB volume of this set and wanted to locate the second. Upon locating this I never thought it would be in such mint condition . . . New it was, for the best price ever! I just love this item and since it is HB, I can share with so many others, without it becoming frayed or worn too easily. Thanks(book seller)for such a great find!
