Despite having upgraded from my Curve to a Tour last summer, I found this book to be the best smartphone reference I've had. Craig has done a great job with the layout and design, with clear explanations of the inner workings of a great family of smartphones. Even the first few pages were helpful, as I finally found the speakerphone key! The Curve is a classic powerhouse of a Blackberry smartphone, and this book is a must-have reference for not only newbies to the BB world, but also those (like me) who couldn't/didn't want to read the carrier manual or just want to know how to get more out of these devices. The color pictures are very helpful, especially for those of us that need to SEE something to understand it. Technology can be daunting to many, but Craig has written a thorough guide to not only Blackberry Curves, but also to the basics of the Blackberry world.
Thanks to Craig for a great job on a great reference!

Craig Johnston's "My BlackBerry Curve" offers an impressive, in-depth look into some of the world's most widely used BlackBerry brand smartphones. Covered in this essential volume are the "ins" and "outs" of the Curve 8300, 8500, and 8900 Series devices.

Whether you are new to the world of Smartphones, a resonably knowledgable BlackBerry intermediate (like me), or an all-out CrackBerry Addict, this book will keep you informed, enthralled, curious, and excited.

It covers the most basic information and aspects of your particular Berry as well as all of its particular features, and every aspect of the text is complimented by - and made more visually apparent thanks to Craig's detailed screenshots, photos, and descriptions. I have owned a Curve for approximately a year and a half and love it, but with this book, I am more esger to delve into my phone and to experience and explore all that it has to offer! Also offered within this book are helpful step-by-step explanations in many of the side margins.

Though I got my copy of "My BlackBerry Curve" later than I would have hoped, it was well worth the wait and did not disappoint. In fact, if possible, I'd gladly say that it exceeds my expectations! Craig's knowledge of BlackBerry phones is evident and his knowledge of its nuances is quite IMPRESSIVE; it has me in awe, actually.

I will refer to this volume time and again and would recommend it to anyone with an even mild curiosity about Curve smartphones! Craig's literary labor of love shows why he does, in fact, live up to his nickname, "The Expert," as mentioned in [...] podcasts.

Well done, Craig! On behalf of BlackBerry users - and fans - everywhere, THANK YOU!

~ Becky

This is a very useful guide for those folks who want to or need to understand how to manage their Blackberry better.

If you have a personal or corporate Blackberry, this book can help you to make the most of the available features of your device. He really explains things well with decent sized photos and text side by side. The colored text and photos are a very great improvement over the grayscale manual you may (or may not) get with your device. There may be secrets in here that your corporate wireless device manager does NOT want you to know!
Most importantly, he puts a twist on the trite slang phrase "it's all good" with the "it's not all good" sidebars - one of the first ones is a warning about getting and using a case for the device as it needs a case with a magnet in the proper place to tell the phone it is in a case and shut down functions appropriately, otherwise it could still `pocket dial' for example. This particular book does not have much useful information on the Nextel features of the Sprint/NexTel version, however. It is a good book for users of all levels as it presents the information in `step by step' format. The book also offers a free online edition of this title for 45 days through Safari Books Online. The remainder of Safari may have other terms of use, however.

I am adding this to my shelf of very helpful QUe books that typically explain software 10x better than the program's own `help' files!

This past spring I purchased a Blackberry Curve 8530. My First blackberry (BB) ever. And naturally it was new to me also. Yes it came with a disc, and a sheet of quick directions (to get started). But there's something I don't care for in sitting behind the computer, and reading.

This book gives you not only directions, but tips and tricks for your BB. It gives great pictures, along with written word. It tells you what to do when the kindle gets stuck, your browser acts up or email acts funny. Gives tricks properly setting up your BB. And so on.

This book is really something that anyone new to the world of BB should own. And it starts at the very part where you unpack your BB.

Here's one tip/trick the book gives. When I purchased my BB, the store set up the time. Then came the time when the clocks went ahead an hour. My BB did not change the time. I didn't have the time to fiddle around with it, so I took it back to the store, they fixed it. Here comes the book which explained how to set it so the time adjusts itself according to the network, that is when the time changes on the network (both actual time and hour back/forward), my phone will as well. My phone was set to manual time on the phone.

Very informative book! Well worth it.
