I got this thing up at HD a few years back (mine says Husky on it but it is the same item). It was in the clearance section for like $25 and I thought, "gee that's a bit much for what is." Then I picked it up, played with it for a minute and then... the handle turned. I was confused for a moment, and then as I realized what I was holding I got excited. From the description you know by now that it operates as a traditional reversible ratchet, but if you twist the handle it also drives the head. Forget about 5 degree arc, how about 0 degree arc? Ok, so you can't produce enough torque to break a fastener free by twisting, but wow is it nice to just "unscrew" it once you get it loose. The other thing that isn't readily apparent until you use it is that you get some bonus torque on tight fasteners by twisting as you pull. This also helps to keep a socket in place as you are swinging back - and you can eliminate the slack in the swing of the ratchet allowing for the minimum travel possible.

So, awesomeness factor is high, but what's the bottom line? Will it hold up to real use? Is it really cool enough to drop $35 on?

All I can say is that it hasn't let me down yet. I don't use it to break high torque bolts, I try to keep from throwing it against any concrete walls when things aren't going my way with a job, and so far it works like day I bought it.

This 3/8' drive rotating ratchet tool is fantastic! The twist handle function works great on nuts and bolts in tight locations where there's little room to swing a standard wrench or ratchet handle. You may still need to use a regular wrench to break a very tight fastener free and a torque wrench to retighten to spec's but this tool makes turning the fasteners in and out a breeze. I wouldn't recommend this tool for heavy duty use like wheel lugs or brake caliper bolts but for light to medium mechanical work it's become my "daily driver".

A guy at work had one and used it on the machines at work. I saw it and was asking about it. He loved it so I bought it for 3 special men in my life for Christmas. I have purchased 3 BlackHawks. Those 3 men have just raved about it and stated it has made things soo much easier. They wish they had the BlackHawk yrs ago lol

Great engineering, finish and function. Now my primary ratchet - and I have more than a dozen high end ratchets. Can't say enough about the twist handle action; it works in VERY tight places.

There is always that one bolt or screw that you can touch but you cannot turn. This Rotator drive is the answer to a lot of aggravation. Now all the guys in the shop have to have one.

i use it every day, as a mechanic. i wish there was a 3/8" female adapter on the butt of the handle so i can hook it to my drill. great ratchet and a must have in the tool box.

I found this ratchet on accident while surfing the web a while back. The usefulness of it's unique feature became apparent to me immediately and I bought it. It's heavier than all of my other ratchets of that size and it's thicker at the head too, but that's to be expected given the linkages inside. I love the handle, it's big enough to fill up my hand and allows me to really put some pressure on it without it hurting.

I've not been a big PROTO tools guy in the past, I've used them for work but I've never bought them. For the money, having the ability to twist the handle and drive the ratchet without having to swing the handle makes this one of my favorite tools in my kit. If I break it, I'll have no problems buying another one, it's that useful to me.
