Awesome product. I was looking for a strap that made it comfortable and secure to wear the camera around the shoulder and not around the neck. The great part about this is that it anchors to the threaded tripod mount on your camera so you know it's not going anywhere. The down side is that it takes away from mounting your camera on a tripod. The black rubber thingy at the base of the screws makes it so you can tighten it down and not worry about it vibrating lose. I bought just the screw attachment but not the strap. I just made my own strap from an old luggage strap....b/c I'm cheap.

This little piece of metal with a screw attached has changed my picture taking life! I bought a strap from an online strap maker for $15 and hooked it on to my camera and love it. This is the only way for me to carry my camera when traveling or hiking. No more sore neck and trying to figure out how to keep the strap from digging in the back of my neck. SLRs are pretty heavy and this helps to distribute the weight and you carry it like a shoulder bag.
I saw this in a magazine and thought I could put all of this together for less than the $80 others wanted. I was able to buy this and the strap for about $30. What a deal!

Better Than Original Version,

I purchased this to replace the original FastenR-2 that came with my R-Strap. This fastener is an improved version and fits more snugly and more securely. Whereas I used to have to periodically twist it to insure it wasn't loosening from the camera, I have yet to have to do that with this one. I will though...just out of habit and just in case!

Replacement/spare connector piece for the R-Straps,
This review is from: Black Rapid FastenR-2 (Electronics)
This is a replacement connector piece for R-Strap users. It's the 2nd generation version (apparently the original FastenR had problems), and can be used either for a replacement if you lost your included piece, or for a spare if you have multiple cameras. I believe people who make their own "home-made" R-Straps also use these as the connector (attaching a carabiner to the ring).
The product is very nice looking and I prefer the design to the FastenR-3 (which is a solid piece, opposed to having the adjustable ring). Attach it to the tripod mount on your camera and you're ready to go (tip: for a stronger seal, either lick the bottom of the rubber piece, or wet it with a drop of water before attaching it to the tripod mount to create a stronger seal). Works great however you're holding the camera (including with a battery grip shooting portrait-style). Not much else to say about it! If you lost yours, want a spare or are trying to make your own, this is the piece you need.

Using for a Taylor Guitar Case Shoulder Strap and Hooks,
By Is5410 (Rochester, NY) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Black Rapid FastenR-2 (Electronics)
I bought two Black Rapid Straps Fasten-R2 for R Series Straps. to use in combination with two Manfrotto 088LBP Adapter 1/4-Inch- 20 to 3/8-Inch with flange to add a shoulder strap Klein Tools Tool Bag Shoulder Strap Kit 5102S for 5102 & 5105 Canvas Bags to my Taylor Guitar case, similar to the Breedlove shoulder strap hooks. The combination of these items works great. I (fearfully and carefully) drilled two holes in the guitar case, inserted the adapter (screwing it in with a tight squeeze from the inside out) and then screwed the R2 Fastener from the outside onto the adapter through the hole creating a grip on the case between the two. The strap then hooks onto the R2.
The good: 1. The R2 seems very strong and the D-ring is wide enough to fit the shoulder strap hooks, which is not the case with the Black Rapid FastenR-3 Third Generation for R-Strap which seems to have such a small hole that not all hooks will work with it. 2. The rubber compresses as the fastener is tightened to create a tight fit to hold in place. The weaknesses: 1. Still not sure how the D-ring will hold over time as they are multiple parts. A reviewer of the R3 said they knew of someone that the ring came apart. I am hopeful it is not the case with me. See photos of the project and final result.

It screws into the tripod mount and lets you attach a strap. It's well built. Enough said.
