Great accessory, but overpriced.

Some things that weren't apparent to me: 1) the carabiners are 2 different sizes -- the black one is bigger than the yellow one.

Don't think strap is robust enough to protect camera from hitting the ground/floor.

We use this in conjunction with the BlackRapid RFH-1E0 Fastenr Tripod (FR-T1) (Black) for clipping our Kick model of strap to our T3i camera. For starters, this kit costs 23 bucks, so don't pay more than that. Also, considering that the reason most people will buy this is for the tether itself (the kit comes with 2 of them), why are we force to pay for 2 cheap carabiners and a fancy bag to put them in? When buying other BlackRapid items, they don't come with 2 of everything, so why this kit? I think it is to try and justify the high price. Instead, they need to sell the tether straps for 5 dollars each, a la carte and they should start including them with the strap systems.

For what it is, it works very well. If the FastenR comes unscrewed or fails, this will catch your camera before it hits the ground. Because we use the alternate fastener for the Manfrotto plates and it has additional points that might fail, it makes this accessory especially appealing to us.

Note that, due to its design, this will be of no help at all if the failure has to do with the ConnectR swivel hook breaking or coming completely open, because it also hangs from that ConnectR.

This product could be improved with a method to attach it to the strap independently of the ConnectR.

I love the product and I realize and accept that BlackRapid generally charges too much for their products to begin with, but this (with the exception of the Lockstar plastic clip) is the most overpriced item in their overpriced catalog. I love the products, but stop it with the price gouging already.

This kit is nice...not essential, but nice. If you already have a BlackRapid strap, this is just a little extra precaution if the lock gate get unscrewed (it's happened to me on several occasions). I love my BlackRapid Sport, but I love my camera more. I modified the use slightly -- it says to hook the strap into the lock gate and then hook into the camera. Instead, I hook my camera into the lock-gate, and then attach a carabiner onto the strap and onto the BlackRapid strap (in case the entire lock-gate mechanism falls off all together).

Some things that weren't apparent to me: 1) the carabiners are 2 different sizes -- the black one is bigger than the yellow one. 2) the bag can double as a lens cloth. 3) if your hands are small enough, the straps can be used as wrist straps if you don't want to use the entire system.

I got this kit because of the horror stories of the few who rated Black Rapid DSLR straps with one star. These folks had a catastrophic failure resulting in a camera hitting the ground.

I can see how the DSLR straps can eventually get loose over time on an extended day of use. This kit will save you that one time you forget to check the anchor and carbiner that connects your camera to the strap.

This kit is worth the peace of mind.

I just got the Black Rapid Classic strap but I didnt trust my camera and lens to just one connection point that is screwed in. That is where the safety tether comes in. This is a must for added security. I've attached one strap from the clip to the left camera strap connector. I also use the included clips as designed in their video to keep the strap down at my belt loop and clip the camera when in periods of long walk. Love it. It lost 1 star because of the pricing. I think the materials are nice, but a little pricey for the add on pieces. Granted, I would still recommend buying it as it is cheaper then the alternative failure and dropped camera / lens.

Great accessory, but overpriced. Although, if my camera ever becomes separated from the strap, I'm sure I won't complain about the price....

Someone asked for a picture, so I will include one (using my phone, sorry).

The only downside to the BlackRapid straps is the ability for the tripod mounted anchor to come off during a long hike with lots of jolting and vibration. This kit addresses that issue extremely well. In fact, I bought one kit, and I'm happy enough to split it up and use it on both my wife's strap and my own. (2 for the price of 1!) So far we haven't had to depend on it, but it is definitely nice having the peace of mind that this provides.

Low rating because after spending 70 or 80 dollars on a black rapid strap then I find out this is a safety strap to stop what everyone in the reviews complains about They should give you this

I've had an R-Strap "fail" on me before.. the most common point of failure seems to be in the screw connecting to the camera. With use, this screw tends to "unscrew" itself and once unscrewed, everything falls. This can be remedied by constantly checking the connection, but if you're moving around a lot (In my case walking around from morning until late night) that can be enough to let it "drop".

Fortunately, BlackRapid now has 3 accessories for added security.

1) The "LockStar" - this comes in a 2-pack and connects to the carabiner to prevent it from opening once locked. Great item, but won't protect you from this type of failure.

2) The "Buck" - a cover for the buckle release on some of the straps (such as the RS-7 and Dual Strap). This is also a great item, but for a different problem.

3) The Tether Kit. This one is the priciest one and comes in a 2-pack (and only a 2-pack). The big selling point are the tethering straps -- one side connects to the cameras' neckstrap location (the piece of metal to the left or right of the camera) and the other end connects to the carabiner on the R-Strap. The way it works is, if the screw on the R-Strap undoes itself, this will be a "safety line" that will catch it. It's not meant to be used as a regular strap you use for a normal period of time, it's only meant to be there for that second if the screw mount fails.. and for that, it works.

The model has also changed since the stock photo -- it includes 2 carabiners, but the 2 straps now have a triangular keychain-like connection on the end opposed to the poor looking one in the stock photo (which looks like a piece of strap and a keychain).
