This review refers to the entire trilogy of the Chronicles of the Dark Sword. This well written fantasy tale takes advantage of the typical fantasy genre, including kings and kingdoms, ancient gods, both good and bad, returning, dangerous quests and heroic actions to save the world. It also includes a coming of age hero, a pleasant love story and a reluctant king. It doesn't quite reach the quality of Jim Butcher's First Lord series which, in my opinion, is the classical 5 star fantasy but it should be a must read for fans of the fantasy universes.
On the negative side, there are a number of editing errors which may just be due to the digitalization, but not enough to deter enjoyment. In addition, Kunkel ends the book too cleanly, cutting off what I would see as possible sequels. All in all, a good read that almost all fantasy readers would enjoy. Start with the first book and download them all. That's a real plus for this trilogy.
