The quintessential pirate Robert Newton delivers an outstanding performance in this classic pirate movie. The DigiComTV transfer is excellent considering the age of the film. A very good transfer encoded at a respectable 6 mbps rate with rich color saturation and good detail. There are some minor artifacts at times but they do not detract from watching and enjoying the action. This is the best transfer I have seen to date, considerably better than the old black and white version I watched as growing up. Kudos to DigiCom for making this hard to find color version available.

I guess I like Robert Newton in the role of any pirate, he fit the bill. It's not a bad movie, however very off target. Would I recommend it, only for entertainment purpose; not if you want to know the real Blackbeard.

This movie was restored to it's original glory. As many other reviewers said, Robert Newton's "Blackbeard", is the original, that so many other actors have tried to copy.

An action packed story, that is fun to watch. Don't miss this classic.

Exceptional remastering of a classic 50's film. Amazing audio and video quality. A remarkable restoration - the best anyone can get!

In 1674, "reformed" pirate Sir Henry Morgan is a high official in Jamaica, but Edward Maynard hopes to win a large reward by proving Morgan still dabbles in piracy. Maynard goes undercover as ship's surgeon with a Morgan henchman...who's been supplanted by notorious Blackbeard himself. Also on the ship is Edwina Mansfield, seemingly a damsel in distress, to whom there's much more than meets the eye. Blackbeard must deal with Morgan, Maynard, and even his own greedy crew.

A must see! You'll have to watch this beautifully restored movie to see how it ends, and it's well worth the watch!!

In a perfect follow up to his scene chewing portrayal of Long John Silver in Disney's TREASURE ISLAND, Robert Newton scores another 10 as the principal character in BLACKBEARD THE PIRATE. Even after 60 years he is still copied when the perfect pirate is called for.

Robert Newton immortalized the essential look and sound of Pirates in a Trilogy of Movies: "Treasure Island", "Return To Treasure Island" and "Blackbeard The Pirate". Though inferior to the "Treasure Island" Films, "Blackbeard" is still quite fun and enjoyable to watch with plenty of Ship battles and Sword fighting! Sadly, Newton would pass away after the Trilogy due to alcoholism and a heart attack. But his Legacy is secure in the Legends of Pirate Films. I recommend all 3 Films as they represent the BEST of Newton's talents in roles never to be missed!
