Editorial Reviews

The experts at Black Belt Magazine the most popular martial arts magazine in the world are proud to introduce a comprehensive and unique 4-volume DVD series on the art of the ninja. In these videos, Jack Hoban - a former Marine Corps captain and one of the acknowledged founding fathers of ninjutsu in America - reveals the core physical techniques of this mysterious and often misunderstood art. Volume 4 of this impressive series covers basic weapons training. Starting with an introduction to the philosophy of the ninjutsu warrior, Hoban provides an introductory course to basic weapons training, including stick techniques for the hanbo (3-foot stick), jo (4-foot stick) and the rokushaku (6-foot stick). In addition, Hoban reviews hand-strike techniques and kamae (body attitudes, stances) with and without weapons, combinations, and ways of immobilizing an armed assailant. Hoban, who received ninjutsu training from Grandmaster Masaaki Hatsumi in Japan, is a long-time practitioner of the martial arts. Now a shidoshi (senior instructor), Hoban is an ideal instructor to teach ninjutsu to both new and experienced practitioners, as well as serious students who want to move beyond the ninja myths to practical application.

Mr. Hoban does a great job showing the techniques for the beginning use of the 3 types of staff. In the beginning he reviews the basic Kamai (stances) of the Taijitsu (body movements) in the Bujinkan System. Jack Hoban is the real deal (not an actor) & in this video he is speaking as though he is with you in his dojo, or at a seminar. I recommend his videos to anyone interested in the basics of this martial arts system, or if you've been training, & would like a reminder of basic skills, & correct movements.
