Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Gr 4-7-The title page of this book accurately boasts that this volume is "Packed with information; crammed with full-color photos, maps, charts, and graphs; and bursting with statistics, trivia, and fun facts about our world." While the 18 chapters are not arranged in any particular order, they encompass a wide variety of subjects including endangered animals; natural and man-made wonders; and world currencies, events, languages, foods, music, dance, religions, and weather. A few errors were noted. The brief articles are formatted in two columns of text per page. Illustrative material is found on every page and most, but not all, is well chosen. Each chapter has a border in a different color with matching thumb tabs. While the extensive index will guide students to quick facts, the arrangement of the book lends itself more to browsing than to research. Lists of Web sites, organizations, books, videos, and CD-ROMS conclude the volume. This is not an absolutely necessary purchase as most of the information is available elsewhere, but students will enjoy reading and sharing it.-Eldon Younce, Harper Elementary School, KS

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth it!!, February 21, 2001

This review is from: The Blackbirch Kid's Almanac of Geography (Individual Titles) (Library Binding)
This is the most engaging almanac for children: bright colorful pictures, easy to understand information and a wide range of subjects very interesting for all ages. My 5 year old is enthralled and her grandfather spent the majority of his visit last weekend poring over this volume. How lucky we were to stumble across it!

3.0 out of 5 stars good for very early intro to geography, September 26, 2011

This review is from: The Blackbirch Kid's Almanac of Geography (Individual Titles) (Library Binding)
I use this book as a very early review for my 2-3 graders, to introduce them to the cocept of geography, and give them an overview of the world. I do feel, a regular atlas will accomplish the same though, and that would be something you can refer to over a longer time.
