5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational poetry... November 19, 2012
Format:Paperback
I thought A River of Stones last year was brilliant. A Blackbird Sings is even better!

I bought the paperback version because I love to curl up with a book. And this collection of short poems does not disappoint. First there's the feel of the book - the cover is soft and eminently touchable. Then there's the design - simple but so effective detailing the bird and the moon surrounded by flowers - not literal but it works. And of course there's the poetry....

This is a collection for both readers and writers of poetry. The first part of the book contains essays by both Kaspa and Fiona; enlightening, encouraging and inspiring. Easy to read and simple to put into practice whether or not you write poetry.

The poems themselves, (fragments or small stones) are a delight to read. I love the international flavour and the richness of language used. It's like looking through people's windows to see a moment in time. I can't tell you which were my favourite poems, there were so many!

Buy it, read it, have a go!

And by the way, my small stone can be found on page 46!

5.0 out of 5 stars An enriching and poignant collection October 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Beautiful writing happens when we witness our moments with wonder and try to capture that wonder in as few words as possible. A good writer knows the fewer words, the better, but because we love words -- it's our natural currency -- we also find this to be an incredible challenge! I am delighted and privileged to be part of this anthology, a poignant collection of deeply-experienced moments that can enrich us all.

I am one of the poets, so I suppose I'm SLIGHTLY biased, but this is truly a wonderful collection that can be picked up and enjoyed at anytime. You will find poems for any mood you might be in at the moment. I am honored not only to be included in this book, but also to recommend it to readers everywhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Joyful and compelling November 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was introduced to writing small stones by the author's website and practice small stones often. I was excited to see their book release and was not disappointed. I like the varied authors and the tone of each small poem. Each is provocative, enlightening and bright in their own way. I hope to see more volumes of Small Stones in the future. This is an excellent book. Thank you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gem of a Book October 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a beautiful book full of what I would call, the "new haiku". The term "small stones", to mean "...a few words or lines that describe a moment observed", as described by one of the editors,Kaspalita. This small gem is full of beautiful insights, honesty and depth of heart. One may open the book at any point, read a verse and be inspired to create one's own "small stone". As well as a joy to read, holding the book in your hands, you won't want to put it down. There is something about the quality of the cover itself (feels like velvet to the touch), that will make you glad books are still being printed!
A deep bow to Kaspalita and Fiona Robyn for making this publication possible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Putting Mindfulness Into Words October 24, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book isn't just an anthology of small sensory poems. It contains advice and guidelines for being in the world and really noticing what you see, hear, and smell. It's a relaxing book to read and meditate on, while simultaneously waking you up to the life around you--and making you want to put your observations into words.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Blackbird Has Landed! October 23, 2012
By ClaireZ
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
My copies of A Blackbird Sings: A Book of Short Poems arrived at my door today. The book is even more beautiful than it appears online! Fiona and Kaspalita have done a wonderful job. I am honored that two of my small stones reside within its pages. I plan to gift a copy to my yoga teacher; the book would also make an inspired gift for meditators, poets and anyone looking for meaning in the world around them.

A delightful collection of precious small stones. Don't be fooled by the diminutive size of the poems: They sparkle brightly, pack a punch, and linger in the mind.
