All around strong album,
By Killer Shrike (San Diego, Ca United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Blackest Album 1: Tribute to Metallica (Audio CD)
Hellsau's Master of Puppets, Razed in Black's Damage Inc, and Spew's For Whom the Bells Toll covers lead the pack for me, followed closely by the two Nothing Else Matters covers by The Element and Apotygma Berzerk and Whiplash by Abaddon of Venom. Unfortunately the rest of the album trails off into so-so listenable mediocrity. Still, the good songs are really good and the not-so-good songs are still pretty decent on average. Its definitely not a skip-every-other-track album, and better than either of the sequel 'Blackest' tribute albums. Its great background music, and none of the tracks distinguish themselves by the expedient of being jarringly awful. I would recommend it more to Metallica fans that consider Metallica to be on the heavy end of thier listening spectrum as opposed to Metallica fans like myself who consider most Metallica to be relatively easy listening. ;) I would recommend it much less so to Industrial fans as several of the covers are pretty apish of the original rather than serving as true Industrial versions.

It's hard to find people who don't like Metallica, but it's hard to find fans of true industrial music. If you consider yourself both of these things then this CD will make your day! There are so many heavy hitters on here, like Die Krupps, Apoptygma Berzerk, Razed In Black and In Strict Confidence that it's a real kick to hear each band pay their respects to the most influencial and controversial band in metal. 13 total tracks.

Good stuff.,

Personaly, I loved this album, I'm not a die hard Metallica fan, but I enjoy their music. I am however a die hard Industrial fan. (or any type of techno for that matter) There are some failures on this cd, but the good tracks compensate well. I think that the Master of Puppets track was an excellent remix, if you can stand the heavy stalls and what not, although many would disagree with me, but remixes should be somewhat unique and not a copy of the original. Anyway, if you like industrial, AND metallica, then I highly suggest you get this cd, but if you can't stand electronic sound, then don't buy it. It's that simple.
