5.0 out of 5 stars Note: This is not Metallica
Well Cleopatra's done it again. If you liked the remixes of AC/DC, Smashing Pumpkins, ext. This is a must have. Sorry Metallica fans, this just isn't Metallica. But for Industrial bound head bangers, this CD is a must. Apoptymga Beserk Does a good job on fade to black with a definate Techno feel. The rest of the Album is very well done, despite Clee's most noticable flaw,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Several strong tracks, but more merely so-so
As the subject line says, there are some very good tracks on this disk, but the weaker tracks hurt the albums rating on average.

The Physical Attraction cover of Creeping Death is pretty good, as is the Apoptygma Berzerk cover of Fade to Black (one of my fave Metallica songs BTW), and the funky Innocent Blood cover of Enter Sandman is trippy take for the open-minded...

2.0 out of 5 stars Ugh, a disappointing waste of money., September 15, 2005
This review is from: Blackest Album 2: Tribute to Metallica (Audio CD)
Yuck. I like industrial (as well as techno), and I love Metallica, so I had high hopes for this series of albums, but I am now convinced that never the twain should meet. A few tracks were OK (hence the 2 stars), not great, while several were downright awful and unlistenable. Instead of re-creating a song in an interesting way as a good cover should, it seemed like they attempted to 'industrialize' it merely by screaming the vocals and adding more noise to the guitars, it is really just very bad, and it only made me want to listen to the original Metallica (or some other Industrial like Ministry that does not attempt to do Industrial by taking good music and ruining it with unimaginative noise and screaming...) argh. Anyway, not recommended.

The Physical Attraction cover of Creeping Death is pretty good, as is the Apoptygma Berzerk cover of Fade to Black (one of my fave Metallica songs BTW), and the funky Innocent Blood cover of Enter Sandman is trippy take for the open-minded (but sure to be reviled by the more prosaic). Other notables are the mellow Tennis cover of Low Mand Lyric (although, it is a departure for sure), and Dreadline's Until it Sleeps.

Still, its a pretty solid CD, with no clear losers. If the rating system allowed 3.5, I would go with a soild 3.5 rating. However, its clearly not a '4' so thus the 3 star rating.....

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Really Metallica, but very fine indeed, November 4, 2001

~This one is for industrial music fans everywhere. The Sandoski files have a great mood for Unfogiven and Apoptygma Beserk takes Fade To Black to a techo-realm. This is a great party CD. I put it in a club, and the people went nuts!! Metallica fans and Techo-freaks alike will definatly enjoy this one. But, this is no Justice for all, or Black album. it is not Metallica, but it lets these new Industrial bands leap onto the scean.
Metallica may have sold out, but they didn't let some Cleopatra~~ bands get a hold of their music. I doubt if metallica would let Electic Hellfire club do Enter Sandman, or a Justice for them all.
One negative keeps this from acheving a full five stars and it the same thing that dogs most Cleo bands, some bands you have to crank it way up just to caught a hint of the vocals, but this has been seen in the AC/DC tribute and the Smashing Pumkins Tribute. But there are those bands that totally do it right, so it still gets four stars.~

This is a good techno-feel to Metallica, but its not really Metallica and I can't stress that enough. The female Vocals for the Unforgiven remixes and Low Man's Lyric is awe-inspiring.
So if your a die hard Metallica fan and a industrial-tech freak, this is a good buy, but be weary, this is not Metallica.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrid!, January 13, 2006
This review is from: Blackest Album 2: Tribute to Metallica (Audio CD)
I am a HUGE industrial fan and an above average Metallica fan. I was really expecting to find a great album that mixed Metallica's awesome lyrics with some very cool modern industrial. Instead you get an album that that doesn't cross the industrial line at all. Techno at best and that isn't even with all the songs. Some are funk... others are just rock. Listening to both 1 and 2 only made me want to return the CD's and put in some older metallica. Steer clear!!! 0 stars if allowed.

3.0 out of 5 stars my misinterpretation, December 9, 2004
This review is from: Blackest Album 2: Tribute to Metallica (Audio CD)
i dont like this cd very much, but that was my own fault. in my eyes, Ministry is industrial. this CD is more techno or trance, or dance. im a metalhead so im not sure what you want to call it. i do like Shortest Straw and And Justice For All, though

the CD isnt bad if you like this kind of music, but it isnt the heavy kind of stuff that Ministry is. i wont give a cd that deserves a good rating a bad one because of a mess up on my side. i will keep this cd though :)

1.0 out of 5 stars WHY?, October 22, 2001
This review is from: Blackest Album 2: Tribute to Metallica (Audio CD)
My reaction is simply why take one of the most gifted bands ever.... and turn there heard heart piercing riffs and low growling vocals soft... in my opinion it makes a mockery of metallica.... not a tribute....

1.0 out of 5 stars This album is complete crap., October 27, 2004
This review is from: Blackest Album 2: Tribute to Metallica (Audio CD)
I'm sorry to say, but this is possibly the worst thing i have ever heard. As a hardcore metallica fan, i think this is nothing but an insult to the band. I can't believe that they would massacre the songs like that. I believe metallica is possibly one of the greatest bands to ever have played, and they are musical geniouses in my mind. Don't get me wrong, i don't disrespect techno musicians, they're good in what they do, i just don't think that they should have anything to do with metallica songs. Now i think alot of you will not agree with my opinion and say "but it's not supposed to sound anything like metallica" different=yes good=no. Now korn's cover of metallica's one on mtv icon different=yes good=yes. It's too bad you can't give the product 0 stars, because that's exactly what it would be getting.

1.0 out of 5 stars Depends...., December 28, 2000
This review is from: Blackest Album 2: Tribute to Metallica (Audio CD)
For me... it's really bad because I'm not and will not ever be a true lover of the electronic music... I bought this CD so I could see the contrast between this and that, and how would these bands interpret Metallica's music. For you guys that love this kind of musics (electronic) I think this is a good album, and its a plus to know metallica in that case... In my opinion this songs stink as a stand-alone record. I hope this is helpful to you
