Blackfeet Crafts,
By Michael R. Wilson (Evanston, Illinois USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Blackfeet Crafts (Paperback)
This book, written in 1945 by John C. Ewers, offers a brief overview of the arts of the Blackfeet Nation, located in northern Montana, Aberta and British Columbia, Canada. The text is well presented and builds through history in a logical approach. This book covers the use of paint, quill work, and beading, all of which are related to exposure to europeans, whites from the USA, and other Indian nations exposed to european/white influences. Unfortunately, many of the pictures in this book were underexposed (too dark), making it difficult to determine the details in the photos. This is especially unfortunate since in the same publishers listings is "Quill and Beadwork or the Western Sioux" that contains excellent quality photos. For an introduction to Blackfeet crafts and art, this book is good. It could have been better.
