I FIND IT KINDA HARD TO CALL THE BAND BLACKFOOT WITHOUT RICKY MEDLOCKE.,
By
This review is from: Blackfoot: Live in Kentucky (DVD)
I DID BUY THIS. THE DVD IS GREAT, GREAT CAMERA WORK AND THE BAND SOUNDS GREAT. BUT I HAVE TO PRETEND THE BAND ISN'T CALLED BLACKFOOT. I KNOW WHEN THEY GOT TOGETHER GREG AND CREW CALLED MEDLOCKE AND HE SAID HE WAS HAPPY IN SKYNYRD AND DIDN'T WANT TO REJOIN THEM. (I BELEIVE HE SHOULD HAVE JOIN THE GUYS IN BLACKFOOT AGAIN) BUT HE DID CARRY ON BLACKFOOT AS THE ONLY ORIGINAL MEMBER FROM 87-96. WHEN HE DECIDED TO END BLACKFOOT IT ENDED WITH HIM. THE OTHER GUYS WERE IN THE SOUTHERN ALL STARS BAND THAT DID BLACKFOOT SONGS ALREADY. AS WELL AS OTHER SOUTHERN ROCK BANDS SONGS. WHY NOT JUST KEEP THAT GOING????. AND THE NEW SINGER (WHO WAS IN BLACKFOOT AS GUITARIST IN THE LATE 80'S) SOUNDS GOOD, NO BAD NOD TO HIM BUT NOONE COULD REPLACE MEDLOCKE. HIS PERSONNA IS SO LINKED TO BLACKFOOT THAT IT'S HARD TO WATCH ANYONE AS 'BLACKFOOT'S LEAD SINGER'. BUT FORGET THE NAME AND THIS IS A GREAT CONCERT DVD. RICKY MEDLOCKE, PLZ DO SOLO ALBUM OR REJOIN BLACKFOOT.

BLACKFOOT REINCARNATED !,
By The Critic "Movie Maniac" (Windsor) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Blackfoot: Live in Kentucky (DVD)
As a fan of "Blackfoot" this concert DVD was nothing more than a pipedream for fans because for years a reunion of the band didn't seem possible. This concert DVD of "Blackfoot" showcases the band in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the Mountain Arts Center in Prestonsburg Kentucky in 2007 and the band definitely gives the fans their monies worth. Sadly the original drummer Jakson Spires passed away on March 16/ 2005 and the band would no longer be the same. Fortunately Michael Sollars from New Orleans joined the band and he is behind the drum kit for this show. Michael Sollars does a great job on the drums but Jakson Spires is definitely missed on this magic night of music and memories in Kentucky.
Formed in 1969 by Bassist Greg T. Walker "Blackfoot's" music has been entertaining fans for some 40 years and it's earned them the title of "The Boys of Southern Metal" for a reason. For fans not familiar with they're distinctive southern metal sound it's a smooth blend of southern twang and hard rock and it has definitely inspired many other bands who have followed in their footsteps. The bands eternal footprint in southern metal rock has been firmly planted and they are definitely the stuff that rock legends are made of. I don't know how much money went into this DVD but overall I think it's a solid effort put out by the band and I'm glad I own it. It's by no means a big budget production from Dead Line Music and Cleopatra Records in my opinion but it really has the look and feel of a big studio release. The disc packaging and disc artwork are well done. I would rate the picture & sound at about a 7/10. The picture is pretty decent even if it appears a little out of focus at times and the Dolby Surround Sound is really consistent throughout. The editing and camera work is pretty solid and fans of "Blackfoot" should come away very pleased with this one. On a final note some fans may be disappointed to learn that original lead singer Ricky Medlocke did not rejoin the band and the present lead singer is Bobby Barth. While Bobby Barth does an admirable job he`s definitely no Ricky Medlocke and I had a hard time warming up to him. Overall I really enjoyed this live concert and I hope more from "Blackfoot" is on the way. DVD Songs Include: -Railroad Man -Wishing Well -I Got a Line on You -Baby Blue -Sunshine Again -Every Man Should Know -Fox Chase -Left Turn on a Red Light -On the Run -Guitar Solos -Rollin' & Tumblin' -Fly Away -Train, Train -Highway Song -Good Morning Bonus Material Includes: -Band Interview -Biography -Discography -Photo Album -Production Credits

Blackfoot is one of the greatest forgotten
southern rock bands of all times! The music is still as great today even though this isn't the original lineup! The two new guitarist can't replace Medlocke but they do a great job & the band is smoking! I didn't think possible to like this without Medlocke or Spiers but I have to say if your a Blackfoot or rock fan this is a great show!
