Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Blackfunk II No Regrets/No Apologies (BFII) picks up where Blackfunk, mr presley's first novel left off. BF II will take you from the courtroom to the bedroom as the lives of the characters becomes unraveled before your very eyes. It is as raw and provocative as the original novel with a lot more passion and a stunning ending. Before you pick up Blackfunk II make sure you are prepared to go all the way.

From the Author

Blackfunk will make you laugh and cry.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hot, Raw, Racy - did I say Hot?, June 27, 2002

This review is from: Blackfunk II: No Regrets / No Apologies (Paperback)
Michael Pressley's sophomore novel BLACKFUNK II gathers
all the momentum from the first book and dives headfirst
into a fiery dilemma. Rashaun Jones is defending one of
his best friends who has been accused of murder with a
lethal weapon. The apriorism is that Tyrone sexed his
partner to death.

Tyrone is not on trial alone; but the practice of black-
funk; a brutal, angry sexual act, is also on trial. The
question seems to center around the willingness of the
participants. Rashaun has to prove that this was a
consensual act and that his client did not enter into this
with the intent to take a life; but that this was an
unfortunate accident. Amidst all the drama of the court
room are Rashaun's personal issues. His recent engagement
to Andria, who was a close friend of the victim, brings
its own set of problems. Additionally he has to ignore
advances by the opposing District Attorney, his former
lover, who broke his heart. He also has to deal with
advances from the sister of his client who is determined
to get what she wants. Will Rashaun maintain his
commitment to Andria, will he turn back to an old love,
or will he reach out to something new?

Mr. Presley pulled out all of the stops with this book.
This story will raise all kinds of moral issues and will take
readers to the brink of their own sexuality. Leave your
imagination at home with this one because the climax brings
one to a gripping, spine tingling 'oh-no!' ending. There has
got to be more; this story absolutely cannot end here. This
is a superb sequel, really a 4.5. -- Reviewed by aNN Brown

3.0 out of 5 stars It ain't no joke!, September 19, 2002

This review is from: Blackfunk II: No Regrets / No Apologies (Paperback)
Black Funk: void of light and containing the smell of fear, perpetuated by a peculiar fascination and is said to have been manifested out of the oppressive African American history. So sets the stage to Michael Presley's Blackfunk series.

In Blackfunk I, we were introduced to a social worker named Andria Jackson who has been cheated on and lied to and who had just about given up on men and herself. She meets lawyer Rashaun Jones, who himself has issues with women and finds difficulty in trusting. As they maneuver their way through their relationship a tragedy appropriately named Blackfunk occurs changing the course of their lives and their love.

Enter in Blackfunk II, where we find that their road, though still being travels together, gets no easier for this couple. Rashaun is in the court case of his life defending one of his best friends. His client's sister is in active pursuit ignoring the fact that he is with Andria and with that not being enough, he is forced to face his ex-girlfriend, the one woman that changed his life forever, in the courtroom. Andria, also having her cross to bear, faces serious health issues that could have an effect on their relationship, she struggles to deal with her friends' indiscretions, infidelities, and ultimate death, and her ex- boyfriend seeming will do anything to get her back. This is the perfect stage for all the drama to unfold.

Michael Presley has an amazing way of telling a story that is in your face and wild. This sequel picked up where he left off in Blackfunk I and kept it coming. The language is raw and the situations are over the top but not unrealistic. However unlike the first one, he seemingly tried to incorporate a number of themes in this and in some places there was an obvious change of focus that interrupted the flow. However, although I like Blackfunk better, I have no problem recommending this book to those who are strong in mind and disposition because make no mistake, Blackfunk II ain't no joke.

4.0 out of 5 stars Blackfunk II: No Regrets / No Apologiesby Michael Presley, January 12, 2005
This review is from: Blackfunk II: No Regrets / No Apologies (Paperback)
The book I am reviewing is Michael Presley's "Black Funk II: No Regrets, No Apologies." This book tells how people must fight to save their loved ones in the streets of New York City and how they have to struggle over their feelings of love. One of the main characters named Rashaun is a defense attorney, and he is fighting one of the biggest cases of his life. He is trying to keep his friend Tyrone from doing life in prison. I liked the book because it reminds me of something that happened in my life and other people as well. This book kept me reading and wanting more. I really enjoyed part two just as much as part one. I can't wait until I buy BlackFunk III. I recommend this book to people ages 15 and older. It is a really interesting and remarkable book. Thank you for reading my review.
