Blackhawk socks, September 29, 2011
I purchased Blackhawk socks in lightweight, medium, and heavy. Review for each below:
I wear the lightweight socks the most and they are comfortable and dry quickly. Size seems true. As for durability, I'm a little disappointed with this performance type sock. I've had them 6 months and they are already starting to "pill" (sp? - anyway material balling up and coming off) in the heel area. I've got some Smartwool socks that have been used 4 times longer and no issues. So....there are better socks than the BH lightweight.
Medium weight socks seem a little better made. Problem with these is the size IS NOT true. They are significantly smaller than stated, so get the next size up. As for warmth, they are (as expected) a little heavier than the lightweight.
Heavy weight socks are true to size and comfortable. Problem here is you pay $2 more per pair of heavyweight socks than the midweight and there is absolutely no significant difference in material weight. If choosing between the two, I'd go with the midweight, even for cold
