Was it worth the 11 year wait? Maybe.....,

Being a huge Gen fan I was very excited to hear that there was finally a new release. It has been 11 years since Gen and her boys have released a full length album of all new material. I am kinda disappointed with the lack of tracks. I mean, come on, after 11 years they could only come up with was ten songs. Don't get me wrong, the songs are rockin'! The music contained here is great. True Gen style, there is just not enough of it. They get five stars for the quality of music because it is good. Maybe they will release a deluxe edition with more material, or we might have to wait for another 10+ years for something else.

Confessions of a Blackheart,

It has been awhile since I have heard music by Genitorturers. I first heard of them back in the late '90s when I lived in Wisconsin. On a whim I decided to check out 120 Days of Genitorturers. At the time I was not impressed. I recently decided to give the band another chance when I heard the first single "Cum Junkie" on youtube. I immediately fell in love with the song so I decided to buy Blackheart Revolution. With my current taste in music, I took to Blackheart Revolution right away. The songs are infectious yet aggressive. I really love the songs "Devil in the Bottle" which had a Rob Zombie-ish quality, namely in Gen's vocals. "Cum Junkie" is a lot of fun with its techno-driven beats. I like how Gen doesn't stick to one particular singing style. If there is one flaw with the album, it is that it is short however I rather have an album that leaves me wanting more than one that bores me to tears.

I love the Genitorturers and I've been anticipating Blackheart Revolution for a very long time. After I've had time to listen to it for a few days, I've come to the conclusion that it is kind of disappointing. We start off with "Revolution," which pretty much informs us that Gen is bringing back rock. While she does this to some degree, "Blackheart Revolution" is lacking an exceptional amount of depth. Essentially, this is a pop-rock album. There are hints of the band's perverse sexual deviancy, but ultimately these tracks are catchy beats with simple, somewhat careless lyrics thats sole purpose is to rhyme with the previous verse.
That's not to say this record is bad by any means. "Kabangin' All Night" is almost a rockabilly track, Gen style. "Louder" is somewhat reminiscent of the late Wendy O. Williams. "Devil in a Bottle" flat out rocks. There unfortunately weren't more tracks akin to "Confessions of a Blackheart," which capitalized on Gen's scary-sexy persona. "Cum Junkie" is a little more on the pop side, but I definitely love it. The rest of the tracks aren't bad, but they're nothing special. However I do believe some of Gen's best songs are to be found on this album. Blackheart Revolution left me thirsty for more. After ten years, I had expected more than ten tracks. Aside from the cover, there isn't even any album art or interesting content aside from lyrics inside. It seems almost imcomplete. Regardless, Blackheart Revolution IS a great album for a good time and simply "rocking out," and I defintely recommend a purchase. But hopefully the band's next installment packs a little more edge. 3.5/5 Stars
