Was it worth the 11 year wait? Maybe.....,

Being a huge Gen fan I was very excited to hear that there was finally a new release. It has been 11 years since Gen and her boys have released a full length album of all new material. I am kinda disappointed with the lack of tracks. I mean, come on, after 11 years they could only come up with was ten songs. Don't get me wrong, the songs are rockin'! The music contained here is great. True Gen style, there is just not enough of it. They get five stars for the quality of music because it is good. Maybe they will release a deluxe edition with more material, or we might have to wait for another 10+ years for something else.

It has been awhile since I have heard music by Genitorturers. I first heard of them back in the late '90s when I lived in Wisconsin. On a whim I decided to check out 120 Days of Genitorturers. At the time I was not impressed. I recently decided to give the band another chance when I heard the first single "Cum Junkie" on youtube. I immediately fell in love with the song so I decided to buy Blackheart Revolution. With my current taste in music, I took to Blackheart Revolution right away. The songs are infectious yet aggressive. I really love the songs "Devil in the Bottle" which had a Rob Zombie-ish quality, namely in Gen's vocals. "Cum Junkie" is a lot of fun with its techno-driven beats. I like how Gen doesn't stick to one particular singing style. If there is one flaw with the album, it is that it is short however I rather have an album that leaves me wanting more than one that bores me to tears.

I love the Genitorturers and I've been anticipating Blackheart Revolution for a very long time. After I've had time to listen to it for a few days, I've come to the conclusion that it is kind of disappointing. We start off with "Revolution," which pretty much informs us that Gen is bringing back rock. While she does this to some degree, "Blackheart Revolution" is lacking an exceptional amount of depth. Essentially, this is a pop-rock album. There are hints of the band's perverse sexual deviancy, but ultimately these tracks are catchy beats with simple, somewhat careless lyrics thats sole purpose is to rhyme with the previous verse.
That's not to say this record is bad by any means. "Kabangin' All Night" is almost a rockabilly track, Gen style. "Louder" is somewhat reminiscent of the late Wendy O. Williams. "Devil in a Bottle" flat out rocks. There unfortunately weren't more tracks akin to "Confessions of a Blackheart," which capitalized on Gen's scary-sexy persona. "Cum Junkie" is a little more on the pop side, but I definitely love it. The rest of the tracks aren't bad, but they're nothing special. However I do believe some of Gen's best songs are to be found on this album. Blackheart Revolution left me thirsty for more. After ten years, I had expected more than ten tracks. Aside from the cover, there isn't even any album art or interesting content aside from lyrics inside. It seems almost imcomplete. Regardless, Blackheart Revolution IS a great album for a good time and simply "rocking out," and I defintely recommend a purchase. But hopefully the band's next installment packs a little more edge. 3.5/5 Stars

To me the songs from the last 3 Genitorturers CD's were a waste of time. It wasn't really my cup of tea. With this entry they really delivered. Cum Junkie shows how really great a singer Gen is & though the lyrics may be a little risque for some they are more sexy & this song is exceptional. In fact I first heard Gen Sing it "A Cappella" ( sans music)on the Bubba Show & I ran out & got the 7" Vinyl of that ( with Lets Go on the flip side). Other songs of note on the Blackheart Revolution CD are Revolution ( by Evil D I think) & Vampire Lover & Tell Me ( both by Gen). These 4 are a perfect hard rock fit for me & I think you too. So think outside the box & give this CD a try. The other songs are more throwbacks to the other CD's Flesh is the Law or Sin City etc & lack the musicality that this new CD clearly has.I think Gen has found a home with Sexy lyrics & a more hard rock stand. As well the CD has lyrics for all the songs, so enjoy-4 stars.

Long time fan going back to 120 Days(I am in command) and Sin City...really taken at the time with the merge of metal, industrial and bondagecore, with a strong alternative worship perspective....so we wait 10 long years, and we have...good old fashioned rock-n-roll....and if not much else stands out, the Genitortures have crafted a legitimate pop-rock album. Nothing wrong with that, per se, but not as-expected groundbreaking either. "Revolution" opens, sort of a hey-hey-hey rocker that does not truly motivate....a few ballads and other rock pieces, "Louder" has some nice guitar, but is again good ole' rock, and mostly arena rock at that. Now the one that got me is "Confessions of a Blackheart"...old time Gen scary, with a put-in-the-blender and frappe' mix of Korn, Evanescence and Otep bringing a funky bass line with haunting vocals. "Cum Junkie" brought to mind Gen violating Britney Spears onstage with her bag of black vinyl and latex goodies....and recording it. None of it is bad, certainly, it's just not the genius we have come to crave. Buy it,and enjoy it, but question why the band has taken this direction, rather than continually pushing the envelope as in the past.
