I've been a blackjack player for many years and have read quite a few books on the subject...this is one of the most helpful books I've read! The author not only knows a lot about the game, he is also a very entertaining writer. I've tried the betting system he recommends, and so far it's working great! I now win a lot more than I lose!!! Every blackjack player will enjoy reading this fine book.

I'm a novice blackjack player and have read 2 other books about the game, but found this book to be much easier to understand and much more fun to read. The author seems to really know his stuff!

I picked up this book in anticipation of heading off to Nevada for vacation, and wow it really does lay it all out and explains everything in simple to understand jargon. I'm glad I started with it. I've been practicing playing over and over, and I'm pleased to report that (on paper) I am thousands of dollars ahead. The dealer I'm playing with (my hubby) is threatening to bar me from the casino (the breakfast room)!

I haven't read too many books on blackjack, but Blackjack for the Clueless was not very good. In a book of about 150 pages, there was maybe about 5 pages of useful information. The book does give an overview of blackjack and strategy (money management, basic strategy, card counting, etc.) plus some random quotes/stories--which weren't that funny or entertaining--and advice on planning your trip (and even discussed what clothes you should wear and lists every casino in the US (10 pages worth of filler material)). Even if you are a new player, I am sure that you can find a better book to get you going. As for the other glowing reviews, I have no idea how they came to their conclusions. Maybe they read a different book?

I noticed that the cover image shows a different author than Amazon displays. The author of the version I read was Walter Thomason (1998).

More About the Author

I've been a recreational gambler since I was a child. My Mom taught me the basics of poker when I was old enough to recognize numbers on cards, and never hesitated to win back my allowance if I called a hand I should have folded! My interest in blackjack bagan after college when some friends invited me on a junket to the Bahamas... quickly lost my meager bankroll, but became fascinated with the game. After MANY years of being a consistent loser at the game I bagan looking for methods of play beyond just playing with Basic Strategy and flat betting. Several years of trials and experimentation led me to believe that the betting system explained in my book, Twenty-first Century Blackjack, was the most effective way to beat this game and improve my overall win percentage.
Ten years have passed since the book was published, and I still receive letters from players who found success using my recommended method of play, and I still use it when I play blackjack.
