This book is really different from most of the other offerings on the market. It's aimed at the everyday blackjack player (not would-be professionals, although they would benefit from it, too). Its card strategy is an eye-opener: it reveals that some dealer up cards traditionally thought favorable to the player are actually NOT, and that some dealer up cards traditionally thought favorable to the dealer are actually NOT. That changes things a lot, and allows the player to take advantage of opportunities they probably don't realize they have. Really, there is so much that is new and unique to this book that, hopefully, it will achieve due recognition for the insights it adds to the pantheon of great blackjack literature.

This book taught me how to recognize bad and good tables and bad and good dealers---and the techniques that casinos use to hold down our winnings. I had no idea that you had to be careful what table and what chair you selected. I used to plop down anywhere. This is the best-written blackjack book that I have encountered. Some others assume that you are a mathematician. This is clear and aimed at people like me who aren't experts. I had no idea that I was playing so many dealer cards incorrectly. Harvey's unit system of money management increases my winnings and also tells me when it's time to leave on a bad night. I had tended, like many people, to remain at Foxwoods much much too long. This book is really different from other blackjack books.

Loved the book "Blackjack the Smart Way" and the audio book "Preparing you to WIN". It's the best book I've read on preparing you to play blackjack. Other books I've read were either too complicated or too short on material. These books cover all the bases including many aspects of the game I wasn't aware of. Mr. Harvey uses math to explain and back up his strategies, but it's presented in a way that makes total sense right away. Once I forgot to take the time to review my notes from the book before going to play, so I really enjoyed the audio book which got me in a winning frame of mind - and I did win!

I owe Richard Harvey a debt of gratitude for returning me to the winning side of things. I was almost going to stop playing blackjack when a friend of mine told me about BLACKJACK THE SMART WAY, and since I read, I've won hundreds of dollars and I'm having fun again! I DEFENITELY recommend this book, especially for people who don't believe you can win at blackjack.
