Book Description

July 12, 2011
Blacklisted from the PTA is an irreverent look at motherhood and the modern family. From the high chair to a vinyl restaurant booth on date night, Lela Davidson has captured life on the cul-de-sac with a husband, two kids, and the occasional pet. Whether failing at cloth diaper origami or smug in knowledge that her children have never consumed a PopTart, Lela assures parents they are not alone, and that it's okay to laugh-at yourself, and at your kids. These are the stories of Everyparent-even if we don't always tell them out loud. Each of these 62 essays can be read in under five minutes for a quick laugh-either with or at the author.

As a CPA on the mommy track, all Lela wanted to do was sit on the driveway and drink wine out of a box with the neighbors. Luckily, she started writing down her stories instead. Whether tackling PTA meetings, neighborhood politics, or inflation-by-Tooth Fairy, Lela exposes the humor in every awkward moment and maternal meltdown. From a trendy Seattle condo, to a tidy Arkansas subdivision, Lela shares the comic side of family life. She takes you to Mexican bars, the hockey rinks of St. Louis, ski slopes near Santa Fe, shopping in Dallas, and even introduces you to a few strippers-the novices on the playgrounds of New York City, and the pros in Vegas. Lela says what the rest of us are thinking. Her hilarious observations and subtle satire are always spot on. She's not afraid to reveal her screw-ups, along with fleeting delusional moments of wherein she honestly believes she is the best mom ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars It will make you laugh in recognition July 25, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Before I became a parent, I had all these great plans...then the children arrived. And I found I wasn't living up to my own (admittedly unreasonably high) expectations. I don't make organic baby food. My six-year-old is hooked on Cheetohs and Lucky Charms. And my baby likes to try to gnaw on our dog. What happened to the perfect mom I thought I would be? Fortunately I have close friends who admit that they've had the same doubts and struggles I've had--and we can laugh about it. And we do.

Reading Davidson's book is like a conversation with one of your oldest friends, the one who will tell you that your jeans do make your butt look big or that the brownies you baked are overdone. Her essays are honest, candid, and laugh-out-loud (or snort-out-loud) funny. After reading her book, you'll want to hear more from her--I'm looking forward to her next collection of essays.

5.0 out of 5 stars a Fabulous summer read! July 13, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This really is the must read of the summer! I took "Blacklisted from the PTA" and my mother to the beach last week - we both read it and both laughed out loud through every story. I also know what I'm getting my younger sister for her birthday - a t-shirt that clearly states the only reason she's here is because my parents felt I needed a playmate.
I attribute this book to an even better vacation!

Very entertaining, humorous, but accurate view of life from a mother's perspective, but influenced also by that of an entrepreneur, businesswoman, author and writer. It doesn't get any better than that for an experiential influence that inspires!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not great.
This is a very funny and entertaining book. I didn't think it was as funny as it could have been but maybe that's because it resembled my life a little too much. :)
