I ordered this shade to block out light in my bedroom. I anticipated what the picture showed: a well-fitting, smooth shade that was effective at blocking out light. I have many complaints about this product:
1) Shipping: Although not a direct fault of the product, FedEx severely bent the shade in transit, revealing that the support rod is cheaply produced and rather flimsy. I was able to bend it back to a workable position, so the shade is still usable. 2) Instructions/mounting: The instructions are terrible, and the diagrams are too small. I am an engineer, and I still had trouble assembling the shade. It also seems as though there are some unused parts, but not having ever assembled a shade, this was quite difficult. If you buy this product, MAKE SURE that you get the outside-mounting size, because there is a significant difference between the mount width and the shade width. I bought a 42" width for a 35.5" window width, and there is not much extra room. 3) Light blocking: The material of the shade is opaque enough to block light, but is not nearly flat, and lets a lot of light in around the sides. The shade sits about an inch away from the wall when mounted to the wall, which lets a significant amount of light through the sides. 4) Overall quality: The shade has already begun to fray around the edges, and I don't believe it will hold up beyond the next few months. This product is overpriced and of poor quality. I would not recommend it.

I have a three year old that is sensitive to light and has a hard time sleeping without the windows blacked out. These do the job. I installed them a little differently than what they recommend only because my window is different. It has been over a year now, they go up and down twice a day, for naps and nighttime. Not one problem.
