This review is from: The Blackpowder Plainsman: A Beginner's Guide to Muzzle Loading and Reenactment on the Great Plains (Hardcover)
The Blackpowder Plainsman provides a very fine pocket history of the Great Plains experience from 1820-76. A useful timeline augments the detailed discussions throughout the book. Aimed at living history buffs who explore and reinact the culture of the era, it is also a good primer for the beginning black powder/ muzzle loader shooter. The reader will learn how to safely shoot and maintain period rifles and handguns.
The author provides information about industry sources/suppliers as they existed in the early 1990s. Many of the concerns are still in business in 2006. The book is well researched and written with clarity. It will hold the interest of the historically minded as well as the modern hunter who uses primitive replicas and modern blackpowder hunting arms.

There's some timeless information in this book, but be warned that it is pretty old. Photos are black and white and reproduction quality is not very good.
