Product Description

The Blackstar HT-5 is a 1x12 combo amp ideal for studio work or practice, packing all the great tone and innovative features of the award-winning HT tube pedals into a 2-channel, footswitchable tube amp format. The tube amp's patent-applied-for ISF (Infinite Shape Feature) circuit gives you infinite adjustment over the characteristics of the tone control network and takes your tone from the USA to the UK and any where in between. So now you can effectively design your own tone and finally find that sound in your head.

In making the Blackstar HT-5 guitar amplifier ideally suited to home and studio use, the aim was to develop a tube amp that sounded full and toneful even at the lowest volume level. With this in mind Blackstar designed a brand-new tube power amplifier topology. The HT-5C power amplifier is a low-powered, push-pull design which producing the crunch and breakup characteristics of a traditional 100W output stage but at a much lower volume via its 12BH7 dual-triode in push-pull configuration producing 5 watts output, which is rich in tube harmonics and compression.

The Blackstar HT-5 guitar combo amp also has a fully specified speaker-emulated output, further enhancing its studio credentials and allowing any guitarist to get amazing tube tone straight to tape or disk, or through headphones. It also features the unique 4x12/1x12 voicing switch, allowing you to change the tonal characteristics of the emulated signal between 2 emulated cabinet types.

Add to this an effects loop with switchable level, along with 16-ohm and 8-ohm speaker outputs allowing you to run the guitar amp into an external speaker cabinet of your choice, and you have everything you need for recording or practicing right here in the Blackstar HT-5 tube amp.

Features:

  • Innovative 5 Watt valve combo
  • 1xECC83 and 1x12BH7 valves
  • Unique push pull power amp design
  • Award winni

This amp was a great find!
Basically it is the HT 5R without the reverb effect (which kind of sucks IMO). It has the bigger speakers, the footswitch and nicer finish of the HT 5R for almost 2/3 of the price. I don't know if I got a great deal on this amp because it was missing the ISF knob, but $280 for a practically brand new tube amp is a steal.

About that knob though: I heard a funny rattle while moving my amp so I opened the back panel and, well, there it was. Rolling around by the circuit board was the missing knob. I placed it where it belonged, screwed the back panel back on and now my amp is defect free!

I'll update this review if anything goes wrong, as I've only owned the amp for a about a month.

This is a High quality amp. Beatiful tone, exellent power for practice or small rigs, I love the ISF and its overdrive channel. The effects sound really good in the fx loop. Also the construction is nice.

Solid, well made unit. Clean channel is clean like an old Fender, starts to break up as you approach full crank. Only one tone control, but that's all it takes. Distortion channel starts where "Clean" leaves off, gets totally nasty sounding up high. 3 band eq works well, and the ISF really does do the US/Brit variation thing quite well. Though it's subtle at low volumes, cranked up with moderate gain it's almost like having a Mesa AND a Marshall in one box. The 12" speaker sounds better than the 10's I've heard in similar amps, and the speaker sims over headphones, while not the same as having the full box of Redwirez at your disposal, sound pretty good. No reverb, but having an efx loop allows me to use my HD500X to full advantage, and the HD's preamps sound better (when used in place of the HT's preamp) than the the HD's full amp sims through FRFR speakers (just my opinion of course, YMMV). 5 watts might not sound like a lot, but that's 5 kickin' TUBE watts, way louder than I can play in my apartment. Of course, with a full band you'd want to go through the FOH rig, but since you can use the headphone out (with 2 or 4-12 sim) into a DI without cutting out the speaker, the amp becomes the perfect stage monitor.

All in all, well worth the price. I like it!
