I have never seen a finer book covering the Blacktail deer. I live on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State and spend my free time taking pictures, hunting and observing the Blacktail deer. This book is worth the money for the readers trophies pictures alone. Great insights on tactics we have used for years and some insight on different approaches. Thanks for doing such a masterpiece.

I've read a number of books on deer hunting and I've hunted mule deer in Wyoming and Colorado, whitetails in Montana and Wyoming and blacktails in Oregon. This rates among the top two books that I've ever read on deer hunting. The techniques that Boyd describes, I can see used on all three major deer species in North America with great success. His explanations are excellent and concise, his techniques are well thought out, and the pictures of this secretive little deer are wonderful. He isn't an expert in all areas and doesn't claim to be and will often give references to books that he's found to be useful to him (kudos to him for this).

This is the best book I have read on the subject of deer hunting. The photos are great, and the book is full of information on the Blacktail deer.

I had read rave reviews of this book and had high expectations for it but it is simply not the kind of book I was hoping for. It mostly applies to tree stand hunting and although it has a good chapter on still hunting those who hunt in areas other than the western rainforest jungle part of the blacktails range are going to feel left out. It has a few chapters pertaining to judging trophies and preparing your animal for mounting which is great for those who are looking for that but I bought the book thinking to learn more about blacktail deer and also different hunting methods that work. It should be titled, trophy blacktail tree stand hunting, or some such thing. A nice book for what it is and those into that method will surely enjoy it but it is not what I thought I was buying.

This is a very informative book on Black Tails. I have read it several times and each time I pick up I see something I did not notice before. This book is for trophy hunting, which I do not do, but if a person followed half of the suggestions it would increase your success. It is also a easy read. I am sure I will refer back to this book several times this season.

I love this book. It has all the information you need to get out there and hunt. There is a great message board website [...] that has more information on this book and hunting blacktails in Washington. The author explains everything, very easy to understand as well.

Great book. It really energized me to rethink everything I have assumed about hunting Blacktail. His section on the habits of Blacktails is absolutely fascinating.
