Book Description

‎'Danger Lorelei, he's coming'

Icy whispers brush against her cheeks when she's sleeping.
Most nights she wakes to the voices of her ancestors, always at 2:47 am.
Like all monsters, only the light keeps them at bay.

Lorelei Huntington knows what it means to fall for the wrong guy.
She knows what it's like to hide in the dark and wait for the light to save her.
She knows how it feels to watch while everyone you love,
and everything in your life, is taken.

After fifty years of looking over her shoulder and running for her life,
certain she could feel his breath at the base of her neck, the icy voices come back.
Again their whispers find her vulnerable and exhausted, just as they used to.
Fearful of seeing him again but desperate for answers, she goes home.

What she finds isn’t exactly what she left.
Who she finds, isn’t exactly dead or aged a day
But then again, neither is she.

Review

This book makes me want to go to Louisiana. The descriptions of the cypress filled bayou and jazz filled streets are like poetry. I also loved how it was set in the deep south in the 1960's. You could see the major differences in society in the south during that time.
Furthermore, I read a lot of paranormal romance and this was the perfect blend of darkness and love story. It was kind of American Horror Story Coven meets Twilight. Which from me is a big compliment!

2.0 out of 5 stars No interest in this love interest October 23, 2013
By Soph B
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I just can't get over the love interest, Whit, and how completely inconsiderate he is. I understand that he's a 'bad boy' but even AFTER saving her from assault and explaining he'd always respect her wishes (and it's not her fault, not at all) he then mentions that she has to control her behaviour 'in case he can no longer control himself.' (completely contradicting himself)

I also feel like this was one scene I just read over and over again, where Lorelei would be bashful or uncomfortable with the amount of attention Whit was lavishing on her so quickly and he would straight up ignore her protests because 'he knew she wanted it.' There are a lot of 'Please, no's in this book that are completely ignored by our illustrious bad boy.

Not to mention that he pretty much launched the main plot line because of his selfish desires and still later claims that he is so in love with Lorelei that regardless of his neglect or consideration his depth of love is so incredible and important that her own needs should come second.

If you're okay with some suspension of disbelief in regards to a romance, then it's fine but I just can't handle reading a woman say 'no, please no' and be disregarded by a 'protagonist.' My consent politics aren't into that, I prefer communication between my characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Officially a Tara Brown Addict April 15, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The story of Blackwater begins in 1964 Louisiana, and begins slow. We are introduced to Lorelei, the main character, and are led through the story through her perspective. I'm not going to lie, Pre-sh***torm Lorelei is annoying and brainless and everything she thinks makes me want to reach through the pages and shake her. But other characters shake her and that was enough for me. Post-s***storm Lorelei is awesome though, and it is after she comes into her own that I finally called All Hail.

The story line is gripping and had me obsessed right to the end. The characters are solid, the plot is solid, I LOVE the cameo appearance of other characters (brilliantly done and something I had hoped would happen!)There were only two words in the entire book that were misspelled so that was a bonus. This story seems to have a wonderfully delicate blend of authentic Cajun grit, contemporary Urban Fantasy, and classic mystery that all come together and make the story absolutely riveting.

I hate that I have to wait until Fall 2013 to read the next book... Is that selfish of me? Whatever, I don't care. Write faster, Woman!

5.0 out of 5 stars Whit March 24, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Yep, this is another one of those books where I need it on my shelf in paperback. Read this bad boy in one night, (nothing new I know) it was a real page turner though. Whit that boy I seriously loved right off, "There's fluid over here. Looks like the car overheated. It was hotter than Billy goat's ass in a pepper patch today." Lorelei that girl cracks me up until there's no tomorrow, "None of your names suit you. I'm sorry, but I'll have to call you Mr. Whitlock. I knew a James, he was sort of a cocky jerk. He could talk the hair off a dog." Having Whit be Scottish is well, I like my accents AND the man has tattoos I like those too, (winks) "We also favor appearing in the odd romance novel. Got to keep appearances up. I try not to wear the kilt unless I absolutely have to. Bit breezy if you get my drift." Whit may be a cheeky ba***** but he's truly protective of his woman, "I'm here now. If he's out there, he doesn't want to come near you, it won't be good for him. You're safe. Men like him are chicken s***s anyway. If he sees me he'll be all handshakes and kindness. It's only when he gets a girl alone that he shows his true colors." He's also funny, "Shove over. I don't ride b****" Typical man always have to be the one driving! I know while finishing the book Tara was worried about having enough 'Southern Drawl' in here, and I think there is the right amount of 'twang' any more and it might be a little bit overboard lol.

5.0 out of 5 stars I am on a Blackwater Witches high! March 25, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I have a Blackwater Witches high! This book was AMAZING! I couldn't keep up with the page turning I was reading so fast. Lorelei was one strong young woman. She chose her battles against her mamma and being born and breed nothing but southern charm and force fed it a bit more by her evil witchy mamma made me cringe. The 1960s were hard, real hard for Lorelei until Whit came about and boy oh boy I want a piece of that southern charm he put out for Lorelei! Her knight in shining armour not just once but multiple times in different settings. Lorelei doesn't realize that Whit will do, and what he has done to her had her best interests and his own lust at heart. Lorelei wont realize what she is and needs to become and do until another choice presents it self. I do have to say though that I am kind of curious about Rydal.....(keep reading ladies ;)) hes kind of a wild card at this point but I am kind of drawn to him, oh and Marcus who isn't drawn to the "father" himself with out a bit of curiosity. I loved the "bouquet" of Roses in there that really shook things up and made me smile not to mention "bat s*** crazy" (mentioned multiple times! :)) and "sweet baby Jesus" Tara you are a woman after my heart! lol keep them coming dear I LOVED this book!!!

More About the Author

Split personalities? Maybe.
Bipolar? Possibly.
Boring? NEVER!

I am the award-winning, international bestselling mystery writer, Tara Brown, but that is not all. Some days I'm the cook, others I'm the maid, but mostly I'm the chauffeur to my two darling girls. Oh, and I'm always the dog trainer and cat wrangler. I fancy myself a bit of a con artist--I believe I have my husband convinced that changing kitty litter is bad for women.

I love hearing from people. Feel free to join the conversation over at www.facebook.com/TaraBrownAuthor, or email me at tarabrownauthor@hotmail.com

Here is a breakdown of my genres and pen names--even I get confused.

TARA BROWN - My main page and essentially my brand. Books published under Tara Brown will be adult, and mostly suspenseful romance. Blood and Bone, The Lonely, and The Single Lady Spy Series are among those. None are intended for young readers--at all. Recommended for eighteen and over.

AE WATSON - My pen name for Young Adult books. BORN, HERE, The Seventh Day, White Girl Problems, The Light Trilogy, Vengeance, etc. This is my page that is safe for YA readers of a mature reading level who enjoy a wide variety of genres. I do not write for people who don't like a little suspense with a lot of fighting and a heavy dose of sarcasm.

ERIN LEIGH - New Adult Romance and Chick Lit. Recommended reading age is eighteen and over, as there is some sexual content. But if you enjoy reading other New Adult, you should be fine.

TL BROWN - Adult Paranormal, Science Fiction, and Fantasy. TL IS NOT FOR YOUNG READERS AT ALL! These books are for the people who love Science Fiction and Fantasy.

SOPHIE STARR - Adult Only Erotica. I like to call Sophie my porn handle. SHE IS NOT FOR YOUNG READERS AT ALL! I am ashamed but not enough to stop writing them, so more to follow I am sure.

Hope you have a great day and, of course, happy reading!

Tar

xoxo
