Blakes Reach,
By L Murphy (Ireland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Blakes Reach (Mass Market Paperback)
Born illegitimately, 18 year old Jane Howard is sent away by her mother Anne to be looked after by a guest house owner named Sally where she is treated like a daughter by Sally and a sister by Sally's other Children. An attempted rape where Jane fights back means that she has to flee to London, a place where she's always dreamed about and goes to live with her mother and her 9 year old brother William. When Janes mother, Anne dies she leaves a string of debts. Jane takes William and a servant, Patrick to find her Grandfather at Blakes reach. This is where the story really kicks off.... A story of smuggling, love, the French Revolution... I don't want to give too much away but if you like Gaskin you will love this one its one of the best I've read of Gaskins so far. |
