As good as the beatles, November 19, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Blam! (Audio CD)
We've been listening to this music for quite a while, ever since we were really young, and we've never tired of hearing it. The songs are excellent, and remind us of some of our favorite music group's music- the Beatles, and some of my dad's work (heehee). This music is awsome, and EVERYONE should listen to it. This cd is worth 10 stars, a million $, and lots more.
Fans of the Kustard Kings, ET, NET, and MKT =^..^=

Time is Tight. . . ., May 23, 2002
This review is from: Blam! (Audio CD)
. . . and so is the band. The final two cuts, covers of "Jungle Boogie" and "Spiderman," will hook many listeners, not simply because the tunes are familiar but because the Kustard Kings somehow make the songs their own--as if Spidey and Kool and the Gang never realized until now that their tunes would sound so fresh as lounge-fare-with-organ. But the rest of the CD is even livelier: Terhune, McGinty, and Woolsey are inventive songwriters, and the band is crisp and explosive. And really, really tight, too. A great record for parties *and* for good close bar-by-bar listening, right up there with the "Big Lazy" CD (you know, the band that provided half the soundtrack for the movie Startup.com)--

This band makes my head go blam, May 17, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Blam! (Audio CD)
For my money, this is classical music. Everyone'll tell you these guys do the instrumental thing a la Meters...hip grinding, knee genuflecting, neck swivelling like an Egyption Hieroglyph cat. You get the idea, I'm sure. I heard they used to do gigs in the pyjamas...it figures...to play music that makes the listener get ready to go to bed (who said sleep?...I said "bed"), it is perfectly appropriate to be attired thusly. So, to summarize: excellent instrumental music, original, but with enough points of reference so that the uninitiated can get it quick. They all seem like such nice people...can it really be 2002?

Kustard Kings Rule!, May 10, 2002
This review is from: Blam! (Audio CD)
I must admit I was already a huge fan of The Kustard Kings before hearing "BLAM!" I have had the privilege of actually seeing The Kustard Kings perform twice as the house band of the wonderful Loser's Lounge shows when I was in New York City. The first show I saw was a tribute to Paul McCartney and the other was a tribute to Paul Williams (on the night Paul Williams, himself, attended with Richard Dreyfuss!). The band members (Joe McGinty, Joe Katz, Kris Woolsey, and Clem Waldmann) are all exceptional and the band's leader, David Terhune, is the consummate musician and entertainer. So, needless to say, I was very excited when I got this album, "BLAM!," as a gift! All the selections are exciting to hear, the arrangements are tight, and you just have to move to the rhythms! (I now play this album every day when I work out and I've lost 9 pounds so far!) It's difficult to choose a favorite on this album, but I am partial to the title song, "Blam!," "Elena Laura," Maya (Pick-Up Sticks)," and "Nina E." And you have to hear their arrangement of "Spiderman" - it's great! I appreciated this gift so much that I plan to order several to give as gifts myself. You just have to hear "BLAM!" for yourself - I can't recommend it highly enough!
