5.0 out of 5 stars campy christmas
This is truly fabulous, I bought it four years ago in nyc, and as I live in england have had to put up with friends hassling me to get them copies, now I can send them to Amazon. The Jewish Christmas classics with 'Rabbi Tevye and the three weissmen' are priceless. cannot reccomend highly enough.

3.0 out of 5 stars Oy!
Apparently some people don't get the joke. This isn't really a compilation of rare Christmas songs from all over the world. All the songs here were actually recorded specifically for this album by one group of people. The songs are done in various styles; such as marching band, Jewish, Arabian, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Santo & Johnny, surf, polka and many others...

The songs are done in various styles; such as marching band, Jewish, Arabian, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Santo & Johnny, surf, polka and many others. It's pretty fun, although it isn't "laugh out loud" funny. It's more of an "isn't that clever" type of humor, that will make you smile but probably won't make you chuckle. Fans of novelty Christmas music may want to check it out.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a strange collection - in a good way., January 13, 2005
This review is from: Blame It On Christmas, Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
If you ever wondered what it would sound like if Bing Crosby was the lead singer of the Doors, then "We Three Bings" will answer that for you. The rest of the songs are other well-known Christmas songs rearranged in many different ways. You'll probably like some cuts much more than others, depending on how you feel about the various styles of music presented -- Surf, Polka, Afro-Cuban, Swing/Lounge, Marching Band, etc. The over-the-top Yiddish accent on the songs by "The Three Weissmen" tends to get a little old, but is still pretty funny to hear on a Christmas CD.

Even the liner notes are worth reading for the little jokes in there, like their claim that the "Irish" version of "White Christmas" dates back before Irving Berlin was even born.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kooky cool yule for those who want something original, December 14, 1999
This review is from: Blame It On Christmas, Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
A truly eclectic album with songe that are somewhat overdone made fresh all over again. Not really a choice for those looking for a traditional album.

Sinatra parody, Bing Crosby parody, Hawaiian, Latin American, Middle Eastern, Marching Band, Beach Music, and more! Try it, you'll like it. I only have one question - where's Vol. 2?

5.0 out of 5 stars Irreverent, and then some, July 10, 2008
This review is from: Blame It On Christmas, Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
I was an announcer at a big band and jazz station when this CD crossed my desk. I laughed out loud, not LOL the cliche, but real gut-busting belly laughs. I used some of the more innocuous instrumentals on the air as fillers but shied away from "Schlepp the Halls," funny though it is, out of respect for our many older, and cranky, Jewish listeners.

I still remember the day I played "That Swingin' Manger" on the air. Afterward, the boss called me down the hall and said (nicely, thank goodness), "I don't think you better play that one again." He was right, didn't fit well with our otherwise ultra-straight take on holiday music. It still makes me laugh, though, whenever I play it for myself.

Also filed under "blows against the empire," see "Green Christmas" by Stan Freberg. Even though it's a very long concerted attack on sponsors, whose Christmas ad buys probably accounted for a fourth of the whole year's revenue, I still played it on the air. Just twice a year, though, once the day before we started playing all the other holiday music for real, and once in the middle of summer.

I grew up on Mad Magazine and the Three Stooges, and love "Blame It On Christmas." So...consider the source.

I can't believe the Amazon reviewer liked this so much. It is a waste of money. You'll know it was a mistake within four songs, maybe three. If you want good novelty Christmas music, this is not it. I sure wish I'd done more research than just take the word of the Amazon reviewer.

Don't ask why great commercial com"YULE"ations like this exist, just enjoy them for what they are, a remarkable collection of really rare holiday songs. Kwazy Canadian compliers scoured the Earth for some unusual, colorful, weird, and somewhat daring YULEtune ever recorded. With the work done for ya, a receipe right order that allows quality play thrus you're free to let these jammaceutical jingles coax out many big grins.
